Anyone in Cal Poly Pomona M.arch?

Hello.

I'm an applicant for 2013/Fall Cal Poly Pomona M.arch.

I applied to Historic Preservation Concentration Curriculum for my graduate studies. However, I don't know about prestige of M.arch program in Cal Poly Pomona, especially on Preservation Concentration. I know since there are only few schools that provide M.arch degree with Historic Preservation Curriculum (I also applied to UT Austin and others), there aren't enough information about the curriculum, prestige, output, faculty and etc.

Can anyone tell me about Cal Poly M.arch program? I would be appreciate if there are current Cal Poly graduate students who are in Preservation Concentration.

It depends on what kind of historic preservation you’ll be into. Cal Poly Pomona is more into preserving modern and mid-century modern California architecture which has en vogue as of late. First of all, it starts with the history of the program in which many well known modernists such as Neutra, Soriano and Ellwood have taught. The schools owns Richard Neutra’s house and uses it as a lab, albeit in desperate need of repairs. Second, Judith Sheine headed the department until recently and had authored several books on Rudolph Schindler. The history program you’re referring to will probable be led by Lauren Bricker who’s written a book and curated an exhibit on Donald Wexler. Yeah, these are a bunch of names. Read more about them on the Cal Poly Pomona ENV wiki page.

Thanks, petrarch. I could find some interesting information about faculty and Neutra house, which is a valuable source in the school for studies. BTW, have you heard about the curriculum? Unlike to other ivy universities such as columbia, Upenn providing hisotirc preservation studies for M.arch students, there aren’t enough posts or opinions to judge the curriculum (e.g. prestige, critical thinking, design ability, etc). Is Cal Poly Pomona well rounded graduate school for M.arch students to study although M.arch program have not shown in architectural graduate school rankings?
