So, the professor said she would upload the weekly lecture terms onto bspace, but she hasn't done it yet. That's kind of a problem because...I don't have my notes. Is there anyone out there in Hist. 124B with Dr. Dee Bielenberg who actually has all of the terms (definitions not necessary, just the terms/words/phrases she expanded on)? I will be forever gratefuuuuul!!!

I’m in 124B! But I don’t have the terms or anything, sorry… But if she said she’d put them on bspace just email her and ask her when she plans on putting them up. The bspace wasn’t up until last week or something ridiculously late, so she probably just forgot about it and needs a reminder. :)

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea

PS: I pulled up her email on bspace and girl, she did not just make her email “UCBlondee”…

Dang it, why can’t I edit my last post instead of having to make a new one…
Anyway, for all you History 124B people: I emailed the professor and she said she’d try to put the terms up before the midterm xD

her email should’ve been UCBlonDDee

Anyone else think this is a horrible class?

In terms of 1) I can never see the board, 2) She still hasn’t done anything with bspace, 3)there are TOO MANY FRIGGIN BOOKS and 4) the pure lecture and no discussion thing is kinda difficult to follow, yes

But to be honest, the history of the time period is very interesting…

I’m okay with the class but I like American history, so I enjoy the material. I feel like a discussion for this class would be a total waste of my time, one of the reasons I picked this class is because I was avoiding section But lecture does feel a little bit aimless and bouncy, though. She takes her favorite people and events in history and talks about them, regardless of their actual importance. I guess the scope of history classes, though, are really dependent on what the professor chooses to discuss. I’m curious to see what the midterm will be like…

Also, wasn’t this class supposed to be just the period between WWII and Vietnam? When I got the syllabus the first day I was like, oh, okay, I guess we’re going up to present day…

The reason I chose the class was because, yeah, I thought it said WW II –> Vietnam. When we got the syllabus I thought I was the one trippin’, so I went back on the Schedule website to check…and yeah, it didn’t even mention to present day.

Is anyone else super-mega behind on reading?

Also behind here. I read maybe 5 pages of the first book and then stopped. It’s kinda hard to gauge how important the readings are to the class.

I’m super behind on readings. I also wonder how important they will be… Perhaps we’ll have to reference them in an essay for the midterm or identify passages.

People who went to lecture today; what did she talk about??
FFFFFF, I missed the lecture :'(

She talked about public housing, urban renewal, urban blight, Le Corbusier movement of architecture…

Thanks!

Anyone else having a hard time with the essay? -_-

Ya, Its all pretty confusing and vague. I’m really having trouble keeping up with her lectures and really following just what theme or main point shes trying to make. Is it just me or do the lectures seem extremely biased?

LOL, I’ve gotta just come clean and say I’ve actually…accidentally…skipped the past 3 or 4 lectures. Yeah, I know, it’s bad. And there’s no webcast. But her lectures are so scattered, and she was totally right when she said, “I don’t try to teach the main point, I try to focus on a few individuals so you can see the main point through them.”
Don’t get me wrong, the topics are very interesting, it’s just that, if I were the professor, the teaching format would be a little different.

@BrianSuperTramp, what has she talked about? What was biased?

Haha, I went to class but I’ve found it difficult to focus the past two lectures.

I took History 7B with Einhorn last semester, which is the big US history class that covers Reconstruction to present day. Good class, and I think this professor was a GSI for it even. A lot of the GSIs/readers in 124 were actually GSIs in 7B. This professor kind of tries to do what Einhorn does but with less success. Einhorn focuses on some of history’s less talked-about events and people sometimes, but she weaves them into a much more coherent narrative and in general is a much better lecturer than this professor. I still always got the broader picture in 7B but this class can just feel a little too freewheeling sometimes.
