My daughter is waitlisted at Mac for this fall, and really wants to go there. We thought we read somewhere that Mac would announce if they were taking waitlist applicants today (and send out waitlist acceptances), but can't find where we saw that.

Looking at doing a visit Friday, but if they're not going to take any waitlist applicants, or if she's not one of the waitlist applicants theey selected, there's no reason to make the trip.

We're holding off sending in her housing deposit at the school she confirmed her acceptance to waiting to see what happens with Mac, but the longer we wait, the worse her options become for housing, and we'd rather not get into June before getting her locked in for that. I'm not worried about losing her acceptance deposit, but I don't want to lose that AND her housing deposit.

I certainly wouldn’t make the visit if you haven’t heard back on the waitlist. Although Mac has taken quite a few students off the waitlist compared to other schools in the past couple of years, it is still not by any means certain that they will take a lot this year. Not sure what Mac does, but it is typical for colleges like Mac to phone people they are inviting off the waitlist. So they don’t make a big announcement… they just start making calls in the order of preference they have identified until they fill the class. So even if they started today… you might not get a call for several days, if at all.

The only way to really know is to call (or have your D call) admissions to ask about the waitlist.

D received letter today that Mac is unable to accept any students from their alternate list this year.

Hi, all:
Heard that Mac accepted a higher %, and the yield turned out much, much higher than expected – meaning more kids decided to go to Mac this year. The classes of 2016 and 2014 are larger (I believe), and now this '17 group is going to be really big; surprised to see that admissions admitted in the 34% range when Mac is clearing trending as a hot school. Next year might see a lower acceptance rate to counter the influx. So, I am not surprised that there are no waitlist admits this year. Best wishes to your daughter!
