Anyone listened to 'Call Me when You're Sober' yet?

It's Evanescence's single for their new album 'The Open Door'. (nice cover art, FTW)

I saw it on iTunes, so I downloaded it on Limewire :p and I gotta say, it's rubbish. I mean, the lyrics are something Kelly Clarkson would write. (not saying she's bad. She's great for slow rock/pop, but this is Evanescence! There's not one mennacing thing in the lyrics, nor goosebump-inducing)

Does anone else notice this, or is just me? I mean, I like the song, but it's not Evanescence. Only a glimmer of it. :/

I thought the whole song has a bad rhythm. It's kinda grown on me though. Probably because Amy Lee is delicious.

i didn't really like it. sounds boring and a lot like bring me to life.

Evanescence is pop. Did you think it was rock?

I remember some kid thought evanescence was one of the greatest bands because they brought a genre mainstream. (this is around bring me to life time). He claimed this genre to be "gothic rock". Then I completly owned him by mentioning my rob zombie greatest hits album.

congrats.....

Well, I didn't say it was 'Greates thing to ever exist', but they are not pop. lol. Cascada (whatever you spell it) is pop. They are the best in mainstream, tho. (or at least were the best) I like Rob Zombie. Not love, but like. Oh, and 'Bring Me To Life' was an awesome song...'till they played it on the radio every single frikin day. When I first heard it in Daredevil, I loved it. I didn't really know what it was, but I liked it. Alot. This new stuff sounds
A: Generic
B: Lame
C: Doesn't fit well
D: NOT Evanescence
In unrelated news, my mom just broke her foot AGAIN (she broke it 3 months ago) and spent the whole night bringing her back home. :(:(:(:(:(

Amy Lee is delicious I tell you.

Yeah, that's why the song is decent. She's got some real goods in her voice. The problem is that, unlike 'Bring Me To Life' , there's no complexety to the lyrics at all. Even though most people translated it as a love song of 'wanting someone', I just thought it was about being in distress and having loss of hope and that you just needed someone to 'bring me to life' whether a relative, friend, or girlfriend. The song wasn't direct of it's intentions. This song is. There is nothing, not one verse that makes it stand out from the 1000+ Rock bands out there other than her voice.

Example: Overabundance of simple language

Don't cry to me
If you loved me
You would be here with me
You want me
Come find me
Make up your mind

NO complexity at all. Period.
Also that title....pretty much gave away the entire song.

Songs have to be complex to be good?

No, but it does enhance them. Songwriting is important. We're not talking abut a debut album where you have nothing to expect. Evanescence's singles (all of them) were 10x better than this song.

Look, I can get over 1 OK song just as long as this is just 1 OK song.

The lyrics are a complete "meh," but I really like the song. I like the guitar sound--it seems livelier than Fallen.

This is one of the song where I hear Amy's voice as an instrument and not as singing lyrics. I absolutely love the first part of the bridge--the tone shift when she starts "you never call me when you're sober"...I don't know--it's simple, but I love it.

I'm hoping that the album progresses like Fallen. When I first heard it, I thought "Bring Me to Life" was a great song, but then I found that I thought it to be one of the weakest tracks on the album. I'm seeing "Call Me When You're Sober" as a decent first single, but I'm expecting/hoping for better from the rest of the record. It's name doesn't really fit in with the rest of the song titles from "the open door"...it's too--plain.

^^^ I don't know...
'Snow White Queen'?
'The Only One'?
'Like You'?

I know I'm making judgements based on the title of the songs, but it just doesn't look as good as 'Fallen'. I mean, just compare the names of the songs between both albums. I just hav a feeling they are going for a 'simpler' approach...and I hate it when bands experiment too much when they are supremely popular. It usually makes them worse off.
