Colombo, Sri Lanka. I had it today. He confirmed only 2 people were called for an interview in Sri Lanka, me included.
My SATs are TERRIBLE! I do have a lot of ECs and I topped the country in the exams my school offers.

Bingo! That affirms that interviews are like first round in these countries.

BTW congrats for the interview. Mind to share your profile?

Anyone else from South Asia/ Indian sub-continent?

@daivanla Only 15 have ever attended Harvard College and not gone on to grad school! There is an alumni doc I downloaded a couple of weeks back. Though my interviewer was extremely skeptic about it! He told me that H has consistently admitted at least 4 people from my country in the past 10 years and in fact the current junior class has 8! So that put me to ease… a bit…

btw did I post that somewhere on CC? I only remember posting that in a group on fb…

A friend of mine from Bangladesh got one. He is a born leader and he founded an international organisation that works towards environmental and social issues. SAT’s were good but not amazing but I think his essays are pretty strong. = )

Would you mind to PM me the name of the organisation?

Just to bump this thread again… Has anyone from the Middle East gotten an interview? (though it’s probably too late now :P)

Apparently it’s not too late. I got contacted for an interview today. I’m from Sweden (I have an Iraqi background but I’m guessing that’s not what you meant JustASenior )

congrats! hope it all works out :)

I’m from India and my interviewer called on tuesday. I wasn’t expecting this at all and it just came out of the blue; I just feel honoured that Harvard is considering me to this stage!
Embarrassingly H is also the Ivy I know least about. I hadn’t thought they’d want me, so why set myself up for disappointment by researching more than basic essentials?
To those who’ve already had theirs, any advice? Is it more of evaluative or just like the other normal interviews? My interviewer asked for my personal statement and resume. Is that okay? Did you ask your interviewer about the implication of this interview? My interview’s this Saturday at interviewer’s house, so just wanting to get a feel of the situation.
Thanks in advance and congrats to those who got one! To those who didn’t, maybe P or Y are yours, not that this interview signals acceptance for those of us who did get one, atleast, it seems unbelievable to me!

so, it seems that getting an interview from the "limited’ areas is an indication of passing the first round?!
just wondering, has anyone from these areas been accepted without a interview?
if, no…i guess it’s pretty clear then for the interview being an indication~
hope I can still get one XD

Ok so on February 23rd, i was called for an interview on the 25th. The interview went exceptionally well and he confirmed that 2 from my country got interviews and I was one of them.

I got an email today in the morning (yes, i checked to see if it was a joke but it is not) telling me that the admissions committee and the admissions officers want to meet me, but because i like 9500 miles away, they want to meet me on skype tonight.

My bestfriend at Harvard confirmed that some people do get 2 (sometimes 3, if a campus one is involved) interviews.

Why does Harvard have to be so weird?

I agree, Whatevert

anyone got one from south korea?

They are obviously very interested in you Whatevert. Congrats! :)

I just had my interview today with a very nice alumnus over the phone.

Haha it’s probably a little late but - has anyone in the UAE had an interview?

It means your application is still in the running, but isn’t so stunning that you were marked for acceptance already, so don’t get over excited. They may want to cover things your initial interview didn’t, or see if an exceptionally weak/(strong) interview was a fluke before making that the deciding factor. The consensus is that ~40% of US 2nd/3rd interviewed students get accepted, but the rate is far lower for internationals.
If being international means you need aid to go to your accepted school and you’ve got it, I’d bet on that. The admit rate for internationals is significantly lower than that of US students, even with second interviews.

People DO sometimes get admitted without interviews right?

Mentos do you know any international student who’s been admitted without an interview?

S. Korea interview right here lol
