My host at Preview NU did it and she said it was a blast. In the day you go to all these volunteer places andstuff and at night its like a night on the town in chicago. Im considering it.

you should also consider doing one of the pre-NSW ASB (alternative student break) trips. it's the first year they're doing them for freshmen, and they should be lots of fun. I did an ASB trip this past spring break and it was awesome.

ASB all the way. I was a site-leader for one of them this year and a participant before that. It's really fun and you are likely to develop bonds of friendship that will last you your entire 4 years.

FUP is good too, but I'm a little ASB biased.

i also am seriously considering doing FUP. i really like volunteering, is there a lot of that during the day or is it mainly touristy stuff? do we get to go out most nights? do the friendships last? does doing a pre new student week program help ease the transition a lot? will i feel left out if i dont do a preprogram?

If you really like volunteering, seriously consider an ASB trip! They're often in small towns without a big nightlife though, so if time to spend go out is more important to you than volunteering, FUP might be a better fit. Many pre-NSW program friendships do last, and I've heard that they really do ease the transition.
