Anyone planning to do the Freshman Urban Program?

I was planning to do a pre orientation program, but ruled out Project Wildcat because I really don't like camping/the wilderness.

Has anyone done the Freshman Urban Program before? Is it good/bad/fun? Would you recommend it or not?

And how hard would it be to get in/how selective?

Thanks!

My host at Preview NU did it and she said it was a blast. In the day you go to all these volunteer places andstuff and at night its like a night on the town in chicago. Im considering it.

you should also consider doing one of the pre-NSW ASB (alternative student break) trips. it's the first year they're doing them for freshmen, and they should be lots of fun. I did an ASB trip this past spring break and it was awesome.

I second what Lily said. I also did an ASB trip over spring break, and it was absolutely incredible.

(plus I know some of the site leaders... they're really cool people!)

where can we find out information about these? Is it on the web site?...and if it is, can someone post the link :)

ASB all the way. I was a site-leader for one of them this year and a participant before that. It's really fun and you are likely to develop bonds of friendship that will last you your entire 4 years.

FUP is good too, but I'm a little ASB biased.

Besides, ASB designs much cooler T-Shirts!

i also am seriously considering doing FUP. i really like volunteering, is there a lot of that during the day or is it mainly touristy stuff? do we get to go out most nights? do the friendships last? does doing a pre new student week program help ease the transition a lot? will i feel left out if i dont do a preprogram?

If you really like volunteering, seriously consider an ASB trip! They're often in small towns without a big nightlife though, so if time to spend go out is more important to you than volunteering, FUP might be a better fit. Many pre-NSW program friendships do last, and I've heard that they really do ease the transition.
