I'm currently about to start my gold award for girl scouts, and just want to know how some other people's experience with it is. Does it always take around 3-4 months to finish?

Well, I'm actually about to start my Gold Award too! I just completed the Silver. However, I do have a friend who finished her Gold. It took 6 months for her to complete.

It seems pretty easy to finish. I'm just not sure how much colleges will look at the award. Do you think it is really good to get?

I finished my Gold Award summer before junior year, it took me about 4 months to do everything. I would really recommend it. Its a really great experience, plus there are tons of scholarships just for girls who have received their gold award. As far as colleges go, its a great way to show school that you not only interested in a certain area, but have already lead a program or contributed in that area. I am applying as an international relations major. For my gold award I taught over 250 kids a cultural education class that I had developed. It later was adopted by my school board. Another girl in my troop wants to be a doctor. She created a conference on diabetes for minorities groups. I think colleges recognize the Gold Award and its especially valuable if you can connect it to your "future goal."

You could do it in less time if you spend more hours per day on it; it just depends on your project. Just remember 65 hours is the absolute minimum amount of time to spend on the project itself, after you have had it approved - most people spend more time than that.
