So the decisions that will be arriving Monday/Tuesday are the second round and depend on the number of people who have already accepted the preferred admit offer? Have the majority of preferred decision offers already been made? Thanks.

No, they are not the second round. We haven't gotten to that stage yet. We are still going through the first set of readings and haven't yet gone back to the waitlist or anything like that. "Anhydrosis2000"'s description, and the one that I referred to, is the overall structure of the process. But we're still in the first part of that process (a long first part, but a first part nonetheless).

Hi RossBBAdirector,

I just wanted to clarify a certain issue with you. Well most colleges use the postmark rule, such that if an application is postmarked before the deadline (in this case the Ross Pre-Admit January 5th deadline), then that application will be considered by the admissions committee.

Unlike most students applying to University of Michigan, I used the paper application. My application was postmarked in late December before the January 5th deadline, but on Wolverine Access my application was dated January 16th. Though he wasn't certain about my precise application, a Ross assistant told me over the phone that my application won't be considered. Is this really the case?

Additionally, I think it would help Ross pre-admit applicants that plan to mail their applications, if it was clearly listed on the Ross Website that the application must be processed at UMichigan by January 5th and not postmarked by January 5th.

Any comments regarding my situation would be appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately, I can't really help you much here. As I've stated before, I'm basically involved with Ross admissions and am simply a customer of central admissions. I can talk to central admission to find out their policies, but it's not like I can tell them how to do their jobs. I'm sorry about this. I don't understand all of the nuances of the "postmark policy" so I can't give you an explanation or a rationale for it.

For UM, it receives many hundreds of times more electronic applications than paper applications (at least, that's what I've heard). It's a lot easier for them to handle the electronic than paper applications. We (at Ross) didn't really understand the whole paper/electronic situation at all. It was definitely one of the details that slipped through the cracks for us the first time through this process.

Now that we know this we are absolutely planning on putting a strong recommendation to PA applicants that they should use an electronic application. In looking at the whole process, it's just the right thing for an applicant to do in order to ensure that the application is handled most "cleanly" by UM's central admissions.

I'm sorry that you feel that you have gotten caught up in some administrative minutia. I wish you the best of luck in moving forward.

The sad thing about the whole affair is one simple line of text somewhere on the Ross BBA website such as:

"the online application is preferred for the Ross Pre-Admit program"

would have made a huge difference.

You're right.

We didn't know this at any time until mid-April. And now we do. Again, I'm sorry for this oversight. This was a very complicated process that we worked on for a couple of years and this issue never came up until then. We should have known about it but we didn't. I'm going to do all that I can to keep this from happening again.

The central U-M admissions office relies on postmark for when there is a deadline (i.e. for written applications and for deposits). It is not U-M's intention to punish students for the vagaries of postal delivery.

And lest anyone be confused, administratively the "application date" reflects the day your application & payment was received and went on the system. It will likely be later than the postmark on your envelope, but that doesn't mean that U-M won't accept the app (or payment). More importantly, it's possible for an application to be received in November but be incomplete for weeks, even months. U-M will not act on an application until it is complete. So if OUA is reading a "January" application in April, it is unlikely that OUA has been sitting on it for months due to a backlog, but rather that they've been waiting on some piece of the app.

If you'd been waiting a long time for a decision from OUA on an application that you know is completed, it's probably the case that your application has been read and evaluated, but U-M has not yet made a decision on applications with that final evaluation category. As described on the website, it's a two-step process. First step, apps get evaluated on an individual basis. Second step, applications are admitted on a group basis (i.e. one week U-M will take all 'High Admits', but will hold off sending any decision to applications rated below that).

Has anyone received their email notification today? When can we expect to hear from Ross?

From wat i recall emails got sent out at about 645 pm eastern time last time they were sent out...I'm so anxious now as I got a call today from ross bba admissions, although i didnt get home in time to return the call before the office closed...lets all hope for the best

did you receive an email notification, punky?

I still have not heard from Ross... should I assume that I'm in the "second round"?

yo jth11688,

um my word of advice to you would be call the Ross office before 5 PM eastern tomorrow or on some weekday (not weekend) and a guy named alec will answer the phone. Ask him about your application. He'll tell you if you were considered and when you can expect to receive a decision.

I have called several times in the past few weeks and he has said that it is "under review" and that they were "shooting for May 1st". Well...it's May 1st and still no decision. This is getting discouraging. Thanks for your help.

I got my decision by phone mon, email tues, and ups or fedex wed...best of luck to u jth1188...I won't be attending though as ive decided to stick by my original decision to go to wash u

Mr. Moore:

Is there a possibility that the admissions team will still admit students to the PBBA program for next year or are the spots all filled up?

It is definitely not all filled up. At least that I know of. It is my guess that we will be taking action next week (off the waitlist, anyway). No promises. But if we're going to do something, then next week would be a good time for something to happen.

Were people notified of their waitlist status? or was it just accept or deny?

(if you need someone to fill the spots up, I am up for it :))

I also have another question. I went to a summer program at a local college and the whole point of it was to learn how to invest in the stock market. We were given 1 million dollars (fake money) to invest with during a 1 year time period. I am currently the leader and I was wondering if this would be considered a "notable achievement." I was wanting to know if that would help my chances of getting into the PBBA program still? (even though I was denied initially)

Applicants were notified if they were put on the waitlist.

"Notable": It wouldn't hurt to tell them.

thanks .
