Anyone took undergrad Financial Engineering?

Trying to decide on F.E. at Engineering School vs. Economics/Math at College. Too bad cannot apply for both though. Any thoughts? F.E. is relatively new, don't know anyone who took it.

I’m not sure about what the Econ/math department placement is like for IBs at Columbia, but almost everyone I know that went through the IEOR program including FE, OR, EMS, IE, that wanted to work at an IB got positions there. Placement is very good, especially for FE majors.

Also, how comfortable are you with learning programming? Because thats required in FE.

Tx. Very comfortable. I am programming for a major company right now and learning several other languages. so, c++/java/perl/sql(oracle). Starting to look at Objective C (weird looking) for apple development.

FE is more difficult but, imo, makes you stand out more (only offered at Princeton and Columbia I believe).

Hopefully I can switch from Econ at CC. :)

Cornell also has an FE option for their ORIE undergrad degree program (Cornell’s equivalent of Columbia’s IEOR department).

I looked up the classes and I am still not very clear whether it is more like a computer science with some in-depth quant finance classes (seems like a senior option only) or the focus more on economics and finance with some math background? Also, if I want to continue studying natural sciences, e.g. Physics, would I have enough time on the program?
