anyone tried this cappex thing?

In a moment overwhelming accumulated insecurity, I tried this site called: cappex.com. It looks legit, and it gives your chances.

Only problem is, my result for UChic is troubling. When trying Northwestern, Notre Dame, Duke, etc, I kept getting "Average". When I tired UChic, I got "Higher." I know Uchic has different admissions standards, but lower than Notre Dame?

Anyway, I'm curious to see what other peoples results are. Unless, of course, you can resist the opportunity of being arbitrarily chanced by a machine. In which case, I envy you.

start envying me.
i'll return the favor when you're accepted, lol.

I've done those things before, in particular http://www.mychances. net/ and https://www.collegedata. com/cs/promo/promocalcoddstmpl.jhtml.

They're awfully vague and rely entirely on statistics. The entire process is somewhat vain. That being said, they did help me realize how bogus the chancing on CC was, just because it's terribly hard to be holistic if you don't have essays, recommendations, or the brain of an admissions counselor.

I also had a great interview with Chicago, but they don't even ask about that.

it my case, the fact that I got "Higher," is especially strange. My numbers aren't that good, but maybe all of my qualities combined make me a good applicant. The machine uses numbers, so I was surprised to see a favorable result.

It still bugs me that for places like Tulane(accepted with scholarship), the thing gave me "Average" chances.

I know Uchic isn't so much a numbers school, by why all the statistical hating?

^I have an account, but I'll say that for sure CC is much better. (no bias here)

Cappex may say that they help you earn merit $$, but in the end it's no different than colleges mailing you directly asking you to enroll with the promise of $$ (which of course there are numerous loopholes and such, because how much money is freely floating out there these days???)

Even so, any chancing sites -- even the "What's My Chances?" section here on CC are highly inaccurate, because even us CCers don't have a full picture of who you are as a student, much less a machine. Plus, UChicago gives so much emphasis on your essays. Btw who really knows what is going on in that ADCOM room when they "debate" on your app??

I personally prefer to think that they just randomly sort out the files into separate stacks then accept and reject each stack one by one, but every admission officer in the country will deny this.

interesting take. apparently, they rate their own accuracy.

anyway, how is Uchic statistically less demanding than Tulane? I guess that was my real question; I wasn't being clear.

Yeah, I agree that these chance sites are extremely inaccurate. I've tried several chance sites and the chances range from "average" and "you're a shoo in".

it's stupid, dont trust it.

Its wayyyyyyyyyy unaccurate … i was thinking the same thing. So what i did was mad another profile with the same test scores from my real one but with a 0.5 gpa and gave me the same ratings from my real profile

My advice? Don’t fall into the trap of using, or even looking, at sites like MyChances and Cappex. And don’t ask CCers to chance you. Either way, it will create expectations. If everyone says you’re going to get in and December 15th comes around with you expecting to get in, you’ll be crushed. If everyone says you won’t get in, then you might be discouraged from applying; if you don’t apply, you won’t get in. Just trust yourself, trust your application, and trust the admissions office to be able to decide whether or not you belong here (or anywhere else).

Super like^^
As if chancing will effect the admission odds
