Anyone turning down an Ivy for NYU?

No. Nobody is. That would be silly. And not because it's the "Ivy League," but because it's NYU.

I'm sure it happens, just very rarely. I actually know a kid who turned down MIT and Princeton for Maryland cuz he got a full scholarship there.

turned down Cornell CAS theatre for Tisch theatre; no real competition between the two... it's still cool to say i got in

ascremer,

I turned down Cornell for NYU last year and I wish that I didn't. You can PM me if you want to know more.

And the other is turning down Cornell AEM for Stern.

Wouldn't be your classmate pay in-state tuition for Cornell AEM since its in the Ag school? Wow, your friend must not have any financial concerns if hes turning down in-state AEM for Stern.

dylin88 - yep, definitely want to end up at tisch some day...maybe grad school... i actually got a $20k scholarship, however, my parents make $0. so its really not feasible.

y17k- its true. its on one of these threads, posted by the infamous NYU UGADMISSIONS--after Harvard, NYU undergrad is the largest feeder into NYU Law.

Im debating whether or not to turn down dartmouth, duke, and northwestern for stern scholars. I know i eventually want to go into business and that stern will offer me an ample amount of opportunities, but Im not sure if id like the city. Anyone else know how the other schools are in terms of internships/recruitment?

For buisness I'd take Stern Scholars. That's a great program and lots of recruiting happens there. New York is the place to be for business.

you would'nt want to turn down Stern scholars

does bein in scholars really help when interviewin for jobs/interns?

what is scholars, im in gallatin..is there a gallatin scholars...

and does anyone know if nyu gives more scholarships once you're a soph jr or sr than a frosh ...

sry i know this doesnt really fit the thread but i need an answer badly.... and i guess im waitlisted at columbia and duke and uchicago but i think i would choose nyu over them ...except maybe columbia b/c finaid....anyways tho..
Hi everyone I really need some help, I got into the Gallatin School at NYu and think I want to study International Relations and Communications/Journalism/ Art/ Business I have definite interests, but am not sure what I want to do in the future, maybe International Law at the UN, maybe something with Advertising or International Business, I am very motivated to do something (internationally) that helps people because I grew up with domestic abuse...Gallatin seems perfect for me because I have different interests and would be able to investigate them all with my curriculum and internships, everyone says I am "so New York [city]" and I even went to an interview for Brown and afterward the interviewer told me off the record that he really felt like I should go to school in NYC and not Providence and wanted to make sure I had applied to schools in NYC.
I was thrilled when I was accepted to Gallatin, I went to the reception and loved it, I felt like all the students that spoke were doing things I could see myself doing and I wanted to be in their shoes. the social life in NYC is also very appealing to me..
however I applied for financial aid and NYU met my 36,000 need in mostly loans, with only 8,500/yr in grants and 4,000/yr in work study. I was also accepted at Tufts and Claremont Mckenna College, and GW (as a pres' scholar but i didnt apply to the honors program cause I didnt think I wanted to go there) and all have offered me basically 28,000 in grants/yr and 2,000/yr in work study to attend their school...if I go to NYU i will have no money left for graduate school and would have to hope that I would get a stable job through an internship or something, if I attend one of the other schools I will graduate better off financially. I am also waitlisted at Duke, Columbia, Barnard and Uchicago..NYU is my dream but does the financial reality matter more? please help, any advice is welcome!!!!!!

Well, if i were u, I would go to "NYU" and incur some debts. I could always pay back my loan. But, I would never ever have another chance in my life time to experenice what is NYU. :) But then again, "NYU" is, and has been my dream skool. So read my words with caution

ascremer,

what prompted ur decision of decision of picking the general studies program over CORNELL CAS... NYU is good, and if it was CAS or stern i could definitely see u turning down cornell- but 2 years in florence taking required classes before going to the city over an ivy league education at the best school at cornell? the social life at cornell is amazing, its not some really stressful environment or somthing- think about it your making a terrible decision

oceanblue22,

if you are worried about financial issues and will go to graduate school, then nyu's money issue will hold you back in the future.
you can go to nyu for your graduate school.. like Stern. Save some money for great Stern graduate school education.
Going to CMC would be a good option if you'd go to nyu for graduate school. You'll get to be in a small, liberal arts college, then you will be in a big school like nyu

stonecold23,
Thanks for your concern, I have visited both univerisities (also in winter) and believe that NYU is the right choice for me. I know that Cornell's social life is amazing and I have also been a p[art of it while there. I stayed at my friend's house (College Ave) and I really enjoyed the time there. But I am pretty sure I will be a happy person if I go to NYU. I believe you have wrong information about the GSP Program;the part in Florence is only one year, where you have a chance to have a European lifestyle and learn to speak a new language and after the two years you will have the same degrees as all the other CAS students, so it's not really Cornell vs NYU GSP, but more Cornell vs NYU CAS!

My friend is going to NYU CAS over Dartmouth b/c she can't see herself in the middle of nowhere (the only reason she applied to Dartmouth is b/c her parents made her apply to all the ivies).

I think the only two reason people would turn down Ivys would be for Stern or for the 25k/year merit scholarship.
