i just hit the realization that i'll have to be leaving my band for college. if anyone's interested, i'm a guitarist (6 years experience) who plays lots of different kinds of music, such as;

cheesy 80's metal
cheesy 90's metal
cheesy hardcore
cheesy death metal/black metal
indie pop

so if anyone's up for anything once we're all set at school, i'm all for it.

I hear Vassar has an incredible music community, so I'm sure you're very likely to find a band there. I'm a bassist, by the way, and I also play a range of things.

Wow, you're so gonna love Vassar then. there are so many talented musicians here. A lot of folks play (a wide variety of) instruments, compose songs, and perform live often for the community. There's After Hours every Thursday night which is just a great time to chill out and appreciate nice music from student singers/performers... The weeks before spring break, they invited special guests too, like Devon Sproule and Jaymay.

Many of my friends play guitar and piano. Guitarists are especially common on campus. I remember one time I walked across Main 3rd floor and saw guys playing guitar in 5 rooms in a row... having a good time!! So yeah, there's a great chance you'll have your new band here!

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO up for that. I'll join you with vocals and another guitar. We got bass. Drums anyone?

This thread just made my day 100X better. I can't wait. :)

From what I hear of Vassar's current music situation, drums are going to be by far the toughest thing to have around there. They used to let you practice in the basements of the dorms, but a Class of '93 bassist told me that they closed them. I'm sure any current Vassar students would know all about modern practicing practices.

Back in the Mesozoic Era when I was at Vassar, my band used to practice in the Jacaranda room in the College Center. We just had to reserve the room in order to use it, and my drummer often kept his kit there for days -- locking the room after we left, of course.

We also played cheesy 80s tunes. But then again, it was the 80s. :)

i have an odd jazzy low voice for a girl if anyone is willing! lol :)

Haha on the off chance that I end up at Vassar, I am a jazz/funk bassist... turning down quite a few music schools to obtain a liberal arts education.

I'm also into indie-ish rock like the shins and arcade fire... it just makes me think of the Northeast, haha. I'd definitely be up for something if I end up there...

arcade fiiiire! i'm going to go see them here in DC on the 4th of maaay!
