Has anyone used the Monthly Payment Plan provided by the Tuition Management System (www.afford.com)? It sounds pretty cool and for 70 bucks (enrollment fee) you can split you bill into 10 or 12 months with no interests. I mean if you put $58k into a bank for a year and say the interest rate is 1%, you can totally pay the 70 bucks enrollment fee from the interests from the bank. Any comment?

I think most students use TMS from what I know. I do, and it’s worked out fine so far and been easy to roll with. There are no hidden fees or anything, it’s just a service CMU partners with.

oh that’s nice… it sounds awesome and i think i will use it. Thank you!

We use it for both kids.

They prepay CMU and the amount then shows up on your CMU invoice as a credit.

Don’t ever be late (we don’t) and go with automatic check deduction to be sure-- as the late fee is $100!

Most colleges use this service.

You’re right- if you are paying anything over 20-30k a year, the interest savings alone make sense.

I also recommend the tuition insurance should you be illness or accident prone. We took it the year of the mystery flu or whatever that was Fall 2009-- thankfully D didn’t get it. Peace of Mind for 40k tuition refund was worth the 300 premium.
