Anyone wanna chance a deferred EA'er?

I was deferred EA, applied to the school of kinesiology for sports management, and in the few months since receiving the deferral I've grown a lot more interested in Michigan. I'm guessing I'll eventually be rejected, but I figured what the heck I'll throw out a chance thread and see if anyone believes in me.

Background:

applied from a private school in Miami, spent my freshman year at a private school in New York, both fairly rigorous. I'm a white male with no significant hooks.

Grades:
Freshman: 2.3 (yikes I know, a lot of bad stuff happened, but none of it is an actual explanation)
Sophomore: 3.3 (still bad, but I was going through a move from New York to Florida and Family problems).
Junior: 3.9 weighted (only two honors)
Senior: first semester 3.9 weighted (3 AP's+ an honors, first quarter was 4.4 weighted but senioritis hit me a few weeks early and my first semester total dropped to a 3.9, so that obviously isn't good).

So grades are the biggest thing holding me back (at least in my opinion).

SAT: M (640) CR (650) W (660) so a 1290/1950 cumulative (not great, but decent).

EC's (just copied and pasted from my resume:

Extra curricular activities:

Chess Club: grades 10,11,12
Varsity Football: grade 11
JV basketball manager: grade 9
Camp Counselor at Ramaquois: summer 2008
Student Body treasurer: grade 12
Six week internship at office of Judge Meenu Sasser: summer of 2010.
Honor Council member: grade 12
Played the role of Al in the school’s production of The Philadelpia: Grade 12

Community Service:

P.S 89, NYC, volunteered with their after school program
Volunteered at field day/after school tennis program at Dr. Carlos J. Finlay Elementary
Mission trip to New Orleans, summer 2010
Physics tutor grade 11

Honors and Award:

Harry Greenberg Memorial Big Cookie Award (basically, a "good guy" award, given to people who do things that generally make the school a better place, I won it for reaching out to every single new student that came to the school, which was very personal to me as I was once right there).

Essays:

Common app: Basically about the transformation I made after my move from New York to Florida. Growing up in New York I was lazy and spoiled, but after moving and going through hardships I turned myself around and now I'm a fairly good student and much harder worker.

Short supplement: in my opinion the best of my three, basically about what it means to be a New Yorker.

Long supplement: in my opinion the worst of my three, it was a pretty generic "why I want to go to Michigan" essay.

Recs: I'd imagine very good, but of course I can't know for sure.

Anyway, I feel like I'm gonna rejected, so don't feel bad if you agree with me, I really want honest opinions. I really like Michigan, but it's not the end of the world if I don't get in, I really just want to know if anyone thinks I have a shot.

you know it’s tough. it could go anyway honestly. but at least your grades are an upward trend. that will look good. when do you find out about if you made it or not?

Some time between now and the middle of april, honestly the wait is what’s killing me, I’ve gotten acceptances from other schools I’m interested in, but I can’t make a decision until I hear from Michigan, and honestly it’s hard for me to weigh the merits of the other schools against one another while this elephant is still in the room.

UMich used to (and may still have) a near-requirement of a 3.5 cumulative GPA when they recalculated it. They no longer recalculate, but your GPA seems to be below what was once a pretty much automatic rejection (except for students taking the IB Diploma).

While it could go either way, I’d lean towards a rejection.

The GPA is going make it a challenge. I would think this is a reach.

I appreciate the honesty, I know it’s a reach, I was just curious as to what others thought. Idk, hopefully they like the upward trend (but the mid year report hurts that lol), good thing it’s not THAT important to me, I’d love to go to Michigan but I’m fine going somewhere else (right now, probably U of Miami).

I would also not get my hopes too high for Michigan, based on your stats/resume. Congratulations on your acceptance to “The U”-- it is an excellent school!
