So I'm going to be in Austin those days for orientation and pre-orientation vaccines/tour. Anyone live in Austin or that will be in Austin those days that wants to hang out?

I also need ideas for stuff the parents can do

If your parents are going to be there all week i think something like this might be good...
one day is a parent orientation according to the info ive seen , so that should be a good campus day.
day two make say an austin day (you may not be from tx-but you are in the temple of texana so go withit)....the state of texas museum is great, followed by a tour of the capitol , aand any other interesting buildings, make that morning and afternoon, check out lobby of driskell hotel for old texas flavor..... then at sunset the congress street bridge for the bats .... all of this is inexpensive to free....
day three--if possible -and interested--san antonio is abt an hour or 1 1/2 away. a day trip to riverwalk/alamo would be good, a humongous outlet mall is loacted --on the way south of san marcos.... another day or alternate day trip would be to hill country pedernales falls/frederiskburg.

back in austin ..check out sixth street, inexpensive casual dinnner at iron cactus, tour of town lake -several boats or just walk along and enjoy.......

parents will also prob. want to relax... to summarize if you want one attraction in austin the state of texas museum is very modern and new and fun.
