My D and I have tours at 4 boston schools over 2 days next weekend -- tufts, BU, harvard, northeastern. i've only been to boston once and am having trouble getting my bearings on where to find a hotel room. We aren't renting a car but would be fine taking taxis/taking subway. Do we stay in the cambridge area? Downtown? copley square? waterfront? I'm really baffled.

It’s been 25 years since I lived in Boston, but I will take a stab at this. Copley or Cambridge. You will have to travel to Tufts regardless. Northeastern & BU are on one side of the river, and Harvard & Tufts are on the other, with Tufts actually being out in Medford. Hopefully your BU & NE tours are on one day and Harvard & Tufts on the other.

thank you CT…and hopefully the completion of the Big Dig hasn’t made a lot of things change!

A location like the Back Bay Hilton or the Copley Marriott would be good–walk to Northeastern & BU in good weather; cab or the #1 bus straight across Mass Ave bridge to Harvard Square. Tufts is definitely the outlier. Take the T, taxi or a bus out from Harvard Square.

Thanks mothek…great to have two specific recommendations…i’m checking into it now!
