I need a CHEAP inn/motel near tufts or in boston

Hey everyone, I'm visiting tufts for the open house on thursday. Does anyone have recommendations for a CHEAP place to stay for one night? We're planning on 1 room with 3 beds for 4 people, or whatever option is the cheapest. We don't really care about the quality. Location - preferrably near chinatown, or near tufts, since we're going via the chinatown bus and travelling to tufts from there. Is it easy to get from chinatown to tufts?
Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks. And if you want, throw in some GOOD restaurants (we will splurge on food lol) and places to visit for a 2 day stay...more like 1 day to visit boston since we'll be at tufts half the time. =]
Thanks in advance!

So the "Chinatown" bus goes to just Chinatown in Manhattan, but in Boston it comes into South Station (which is like a combined Port Authority and Penn Station). From there you take the Red Line (subway) to Davis Square, which is about a 25 minute ride.

Closest hotel to Tufts is the Medford Hyatt, but if you're not going to have a car it might not be the best option. A hotel on the Red Line might be best, for convenience's sake.

Thanks. What hotels are near the redline? Davis square is within walking distance from tufts right?

^yeah I agree, it's best to get a hotel in downtown boston or on the red line. Using the Subway for transportation is your best bet since driving in Boston is a nightmare. I couldn't recommend a particular hotel for you though.

"Cheap" and "Near the Red Line" don't often coincide.

My recommendation would be the Cambridge Gateway Hotel near the Alewife T stop. My mom stays there sometimes when she visits because all she's looking for is a room. They're walking distance to the T.

Cambridge Gateway Inn -- Boston's Best Hotel Value is in Cambridge.
