Anyone with 3.5-3.7 GPAs and 29-30/1800-2000 ACT/SAT getting into top 20/elite colleges?

Their stories would not be “your story”, though. And there are very few stories like the one you hope to hear. Apply to a couple of reaches, and spend your energy finding matches and safeties. Almost everyone ends up at a match or safety, so putting your limited college search time into hoping to find reach stories that give you hope isn’t very productive.

Are you going?

@Acceptance101 ?

Sorry I meant to janizary. It didn’t work correctly for some reason.

This was my whole goal with this thread ex: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/649604-the-i-got-in-without-a-3-7-gpa-club-p15.html

Just trying to recreate a more updated version.

@intparent I wasn’t really asking for advice but being rude because you think someone has absolutely no chances is pretty annoying; which is how pretty much the majority of the people on this site tend to act. To be quite honest if anyone wanted to answer a chances thread maybe they should have clicked on a thread in the chances category. Have a nice day.

@lavagirl05 @Acceptance101 Yeah, I’m currently attending, but I’m applying to transfer out. Just do well senior year and crush the standardized tests. If you really want top 20, you’ll need to do better than a 2000. Aim for a 1400/2100 at least for a fighting chance. Apply broadly and write good essays.

@planner03 I noticed you mentioned “results” pages. Where would I find these blogs on this site? Searching “results” didn’t come up with much.

As for the OP, NU accepted 40% of their ED but let’s remember that a lot of ED is self selecting. Those kids want to go to school there. It’s their first choice. They are the kids who are on the ball and got their application in early. My bet is that any ED pool is stronger overall than the RD pool. Plus, it includes athletes, etc. I have a friend whose daughter had a perfect 36 but didn’t get into NU for RD. At her interview, they asked her where else she was applying and she was honest and told them of the list of Ivies. We think NU noted that and knew that she would prob go elsewhere with her grades/scores being so high…and then didn’t bother admitting her.

@Janizary where are you transferring by the way?

@lavagirl05 I don’t know yet. I only got a 3.5 GPA, so my choices will probably be limited. So far I was accepted to Vanderbilt. I’m waiting for Cornell (waitlisted last year), Columbia, Rice, and Penn.

@homerdog thanks for the info I’m thinking of applying ed/ea for my top choices. Also if you just search for example “Georgetown 2020 Results EA or RD” or something like that for the school you want something will show up

@Janizary why are you transfering bc I was thinking about attending?

@Acceptance101 I want to go into finance and Tufts is definitely not the best place to go if that’s your goal.

@janizary how is majoring in computer science and minor in finance?

@Acceptance101 CS is definitely a popular major at Tufts and there are tech companies that recruit here (however, still less than other schools). It’s a very tough major though and people are often in Halligan (the CS hall) for crazy amounts of time. It really depends on what you want to do. If you want to go into trading or ibanking, you could break in from Tufts but be prepared to bust your ass networking and standing out. I see you’re looking at Stern, I would take that over Tufts if finance is your endgoal. PM me if you have anymore questions.

OP, what I do to find results is go to each college forum and start scrolling backwards in the posts to find last year’s results thread. Search often isn’t much help. Posting often goes on in thread into the summer. Sometimes you have to go back several pages.

Yes, I will be attending Columbia in the fall. I applied RD with an ACT score of 29 and was (obviously) accepted.

I don’t know why that posted twice. But I was accepted at Columbia, waitlisted at Dartmouth, and rejected from Brown.

@Beatofopinion - Do you mind telling us what factors that helped you be admitted to Columbia? URM, athlete, etc.?

@Beatofopinion same ^^
