give some of us lower stats people some hope maybe?
I second this post. Pls.
According to my school’s naviance, someone was accepted with a 31 ACT and 3.81 gpa. Although that gpa is still pretty good, there are lots of applicants who have 4.0s.
Hey there! I’m a current second year undergraduate student at Northwestern who RDed and was accepted to Northwestern CAS, Upenn CAS, Harvard College, Babson College, UIUC, and University of Minnesota Twin Cities with a 3.55~ GPA, which was surprisingly still top 10% at my school, and a 28 ACT. A low GPA and ACT will DEFINITELY hurt you when you apply to any prestigious university (rejected from Stanford, Brown, UVA, University of Michigan, UCLA, UCB), but it isn’t the only thing they look at as you can see from my case. I had extraordinary circumstances, e.g. being from an underprivileged area, so that might’ve helped me a ton. I also showed high ambition and motivation in my essays and optimism for the future rather than dwelling too much on my past situations. Also, I heard if you apply Northwestern ED it is significantly easier to get in, so you have that going for you!
I got in with a 3.45 GPA.
(but I also had a 36 and I did cancer research at Northwestern over the summer with the epigenetics team)
Grades aren’t everything, but if you don’t have the grades, you’ll have to compensate.
Got in with a 3.7 but I also applied as a published author with national awards.
Here’s the deal. If you got in with a lower GPA, you probably had something else that really really compensated. Don’t despair over a low GPA, there’s nothing you can do now about that. That said, focus on doing something pretty amazing to make up for it.
