Anyone with advice...

Hi,

I graduated from high school a year early and know that i want to do something in the medical field, i havent figured out what though. I am at a community college saving some money and just doing basics for pre-med type stuff. I am sort of interested in a few schools in Colorado and New Mexico. A couple in New York and Rhode Island too but if any one has any advice or tips for me that would help alot. I and going to do my pre-med studies and then go to Ireland for a year then to do volenteer work in russia or something but i cant pick a college!

HELP!!

thank

your from texas. stay here when you transfer to a four year college so you can keep your residency because we have a lot of relatively cheap medical schools that aren't that hard to get into as long as your in-state with decent stats. im not really sure as to what you said you plan to do though, could you explain it a little better?

When i get done with the first 4 years, im going to study abroad for a year in Ireland, then go do Peace corps or something. I have looked at all the schools in Texas and non of them are "flipping my switch". I guess its just because i want to get out and go somewhere i have never been and live somewhere new, but im just really not interested in anything here.

Heyley,

Peace Corps volunteering is very highly regarded. It's possible that within this volunteering activity, you could also get some medically related experience.
This exp will add multiple facets to your personality and mindset, underscore your compassion, selfless service of the poor and sick, ability to connect with each human being respectfully no matter what their socioeconomic standing.

Such qualities will not only boost your applications to med schools later but will enrich you in any job/path you select and provide you a moral compass.

HYPS and other Northeastern schools do weigh in such exp highly. I suspect however that volunteering in third world is regarded far more highly than that in more developed countries. So, volunteering for exa in Bangladesh or Sudan would weigh far more than volunteering in Russia.
