Anything for the parent on orientation day

Is there any activities for the freshman's parents on the orientation day such as Aug 20? How useful/valuable are those activities? I might have to change my fly schedule if it is worth the extra day of staying there.

I don't remember that well, and someone else will have to back me up on this, but I think all of the substantive events for parents are before Convocation. After that I think most of the parents in my year just left.

Be sure to get some local shopping done (stuff you couldn't bring from home) before hand though because your son/daughter will appreciate it forever and ever. I know I did.

Take a tour of the campus if you haven't already or walk around a bit, it's really nice. But otherwise, feel free to go shopping or leave.

"Convocation"? when will that be? second day? Is there any schedule or list of the orientation week activities?

If memory serves me right, freshmen move in is always the second to last Tuesday of August and the convocation is always Wednesday morning.

Edit: here's the Duke website for orientation. Just click on the orientation week link for a schedule of events.

Yea if you look at the schedule, there really isn't much for parents after Wednesday unless you want to go to the Service on Sunday. With all of the events for students between then, however, what would you be doing?
