Anything special we should be doing?

My DD is a rising HS junior with a 3.75 gpa and is 90% positive she wants to attend MU. There is a strong chance she will be applying ED next year.

We are doing the usual, trying to get more serious about junior year academics (she's never really been a big book studier), taking dual enrollment Biology and Government at BGSU, communicating with MU counselor via Email, took PSAT today. Current extracurriculars are band, chorale, varsity softball, reading tutor, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, NHS, Toledo Zoo volunteer, and a bunch of other stuff that is relevant but you get the idea....she's well rounded.

She is interested in a Zoology major with Spanish or Anthropology minor. Depending on how Honors Spanish 3 and 4 and next year's Spanish Reading Comprehension class at BGSU goes, I wouldn't be surprised if she double majors in Spanish.

Next year she will be almost full time at BGSU for sr yr except for AP English and Band as our small rural school only offers two AP classes (English and Calc). She's going to pass on the Calc her sr year as the current teacher they have teaching it has never had a student pass the AP Calc exam. DD is going to take Physics at BGSU and Physiology instead her sr yr in lieu of Calc from lame math teacher.

She's going to graduate HS with about 30 credits as she has never had a study hall and started taking HS classes in MS. Will have about 20-25 college semester hours as well. Honors classes when available.

Forgot to mention, she also wants to be in the marching band. We are going to see Miami's band this weekend as she is playing with BGSU's band at halftime for "Band Day" along with 9 other HS bands.

Anything else you guys would be doing to get ready for possible ED or EA next year? Does MU offer any overnights or is just better to just pick a day and go?

Any other help or ideas would be appreciated. I happen to be an Ohio State grad but hopefully you won't hold that against me...

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I said rising junior but she's actually a full fledged JR now. That's what I was calling her this summer when I first came here.

Has she already done a campus tour or looked at the academic exploration program? Miami University: Visit Miami

Honors does overnights, but I believe they are geared toward seniors who have already applied to Honors. I'm not sure if Miami has any other overnight programs.

Hi, aussiek517, no formal visits yet. That will be our next step if we can fit it in between college semesters.

We are familiar with the campus and atmosphere because we used to live in Butler County and moved away 6 years ago. DD has not been back to the area in all those years though. Some of her favorite people in the world are Miami grads and that helps keep the fires burning.

I was hoping to for an overnight to see the campus from the "other side" but maybe it's not possible.

Thanks for your input...

MamaDrama, have you looked at the Junior Scholars Program at MU in the summer? It's a great program where students earn credits, reasonably priced, and (the best part) if they do well enough in their classes they are automatically admitted when they apply their senior year. At least, that was the policy 2 summers ago. Check it out -- my son loved it.

Just looked it up, that looks like a really cool program and right up her alley if we can only convince her softball coach that she doesn't need to play softball next summer. She mentioned that a student from her school had gotten credit for classes at Miami this summer, now I know how. Thanks for the info!
