AP and IB Credit Information Here

A lot of people have been asking for IB and AP credit information for UCSD in general, and their specific colleges...and after some digging around, I found these on the UCSD website. Enjoy!

AP: <a href="http://infopath-1.ucsd.edu/catalog/pdffiles/APCtable.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://infopath-1.ucsd.edu/catalog/pdffiles/APCtable.pdf</a></p>

IB: International Baccalaureate Credits

“SPANISH LANGUAGE” isn’t listed under there, but i called them
and if u get a 3, 4, or 5, u can get up to 8 units. :]

Does that mean passing one English AP test is the same as passing 2 of them? Wow, that stinks… I signed up for it… lol

English AP credits can be earned bu either Language or Literature AP. Doing both does not get you additional credits. Still, APs matter at the UCs. At some privates, APs may or may not matter – and some matter only if you get 5s only, others 5s and 4s.

That’s a bit outdated. A 4 or 5 in AP Bio gets you out of BILD 1, 2, and 3. Can’t find any other changes though outside of that.

The warren handbook has a more updated list.

Thanks for the update

if you’re “exempt” from taking a class because of scoring a 3, 4, 5 onthe ap test, can you still take the class or does that mean you’re prohibited? I hope this made sense.

EXAMPLE:
if i get a 3-5 on the PHYSICS Mechanics ap test i am “exempt” from taking phys 1A (mechanics). if i’m not comfortable skipping over the 1A class at UCSD can i still take it even though im exempt?

^You can still take it, and it will affect your GPA - but it won’t count as any credit toward GEs, major etc.

ucsandiego915:
Some people on this forum said you can only take it P/NP and not for grade.
Also, if you’re right, is it more correct to say that your AP/IB/CC credits won’t count since the grade is factored into the GPA calculation?

Hmmm I suppose that would make more sense but I have never heard of the P/NP being a rule. I actually looked it up and can’t find a rule like that anywhere so I honestly don’t know. Best to ask the academic advisors!
