AP Bio and Ap Chem are killing me

I’m taking AP Chemistry too, and I felt the exact same way, but you to find the will power to push through it. There’s nothing wrong with dropping a class either. Two people already dropped out of AP Chemistry just because of their first test grade.

nothing weve only been doing labs all day long. we did a lab about predicting products today. nothing to do with what were learning which is gas and stp… and yes our curriculum is weird we start off with stoich for a week then gas then redox then i dont even know. i need to drop ap chemistry i can get an A in all of my Ap classes, but because of the time and effort i spend on chem, i can barely even scrape a B in those classes. the teacher doesnt teach at all, just we do labs all day and listen to podcasts online like once every two weeks about a lesson for an hour then the rest is for ourselves to learn. and the homework is ridiculously easy, but the tests are so hard and theyre harder than the ap chem frq’s. there is no way to practice because the PR and barrons books are too easy and dont offer enough problems to practice…

thanks for your help guys  ive been crying about this class a lot lately…

Dang. That’s a whole 'nother level.

We did the whole intro to chem, periodic table, Stochiometry, limiting reagents, and now we’re on redox.

If you honestly feel that you can’t do it, then drop the class.

Describe your lab to me, if you don’t mind :)

well we were given an unknown acid and were asked to find its ph level, and a bunch of other stuff that i forgot because i messed up and fell behind… then yup all i got was pH level… and then gas and stp are extremely easy its just like stoich that why the teacher is doing it but since the prof doesnt explain anything just gives the homework, and the tests are so hard, i dont see how well i can do in this class. its just so time consuming and ive got loads of other stuff to do, and i wont do well on the ap exam becuz im stretching myself too far apart and barely making B’s in classes that i would have A’s in because of ap chem… our teacher even tells us that before doing the lab, we need to research the lab thoroughly because there will be concepts in the lab that are so hard and no one has learned before… and i dont know how to explain those things, can’t find anything online and my family cant afford to get a tutor

we basically do a different lab every two days, its almost no class teaching in this class :(

and we skipped all stoich, intro, everything. it goes extremely fast that i dont have time to study it :frowning: because im too busy working on my labs and then other homework…

Wow. Now I see what you’re talking about. I’d be extremely frustrated in that situation.

My teacher goes over the lab with us the day before so we all know what we’re doing and why we’re doing it.

Especially, if it’s dragging all your other subjects down with it, I’d ditch the class. It’s a lot better when you have a good teacher.

thanks for the support. ap chem is like all labs at my school, no instructions and the lab write ups are graded so hard… no instructions on how to do those either. then super difficult tests with no prep with super easy hw like calculate how many liters = 1 mole at STP… um 22.4 cuz its memorized… thts basically the hw, then the test = consider a gaseous binary compound with a molar mass of 62.09 g/mol. when 1.39 g of this compound is completely burned in excess oxygen, 1.21 g of water is formed. Determine the formula of the compound. Assume water is the only product that contains hydrogen.

yeah…

oh niquii, i dont see how u can handle all those classes with college app’s thats another reason why im dropping chem. too many college apps… im applying to URI, RPI, RISD, state college in oklahoma, and ball state. what are u applying to?

I must ask: If you don’t like/have trouble with chem and bio, why do you want to go into pharmacy? And, especially, why are you locking yourself into a 6 year program for pharmacy?

i dont have trouble in bio and chem. im not learning anything in ap chem.

Ah, I see. From your description of the test compared to the homework, it sounded like you were. (Although that problem didn’t look that horrible.)

Yeah. In my opinion, AP Chem is a total waste of time. I only learned 2 topics that weren’t in chem honors, but had a ridiculous amount of homework.

To be honest, FireLion, it isn’t easy. Evernight I have chemistry, physics, and Calc homework which gets quite repetitive. Class is filled with frustration especially with new topics. It’s hard learning all of those things and then be expected to regurgitate them the next day or even in the next 10 minutes!

I had to extend my college apps deadline. It was supposed to be tomorrow that I have very thing done, but I don’t. This week I have to type my essays (hopefully all on Saturday) and submit then by this Monday.

It takes responsibility, but enjoying the subject is what really gets me through the classes. I love chemistry. Physics intrigues me. And Calc was kicking my butt a couple days ago, but I’ve got a handle on it now.

well ill admit that im not very smart so i cant handle that course load. and ap chem at my school is a whole level of difficulty from hnrs chem. hnrs chem was so easy. we didnt learn much. but ap chem they expect u to know stuff that uve never even seen before…

hey niquii whatd u get on ur SAT? im taking mine (last minute) in october and im expecting a 2100… from the practice tests that is my predicted score. hopefully i can get into a pharmacy school

well clienk, my teachers never taught me how to do those kind of problems and never even gave us practice for those kinds of problems so how can i do them? the review books dont contain enough practice for those problems.

I took AP Bio last year, and it proved to be the first class I really had to work for. I got a B first quarter, figured out where I stood, and pulled in all As for the remainder of the year. Now, as a junior, I’m taking AP Chem-not for too much longer, though. I just can’t handle it. Including myself, there are four juniors in my class; the rest are seniors who took Honors Chem as a pre-req. I’ve never dropped a class before, and I feel like I’m letting myself down, but I know I can’t continue with this much stress. After all, school hasn’t even been in session for a month…

I’m pretty sure you can take sat Chem right after you have taken honors Chem because it’s mostly concepts and not a lot of calculations.

nope im deciding to take a history sat ii, thanks for the advice tho. i feel lie history is more of my thing. im more of a math and history person. dont really like science. but the subj’s that i like are the ones tht u dont make $ in… Go figure
