hey all i have an ap bio question dealing with the ecology chaper i have the cliffsap bio and read through the entire section but i cant figure out how to fill in this stupid little box thing using the campbell book (ch 50)

the question is mountaints affect local climate, describe their influence in the following 3 areas, a) solar radiation, b) temp and c) rainfall

im sure if i put the time into it i could figure it out but i have like 5 assignments due for more aps on monday

Thanks alot

I learned this once but I've forgotten a lot. For c, mountains affect rainfall because they create rain shadows. On the leeward side, there's a lot of rain, but on the other side, it's very dry because there's not much rain. I don't remember the answers for the rest of the question.

slight correction: it rains on the windward side of the mountain, and is drier on the leeward side.....

Off the top of my head: elevation results in a decrease in temperature. Solar radiation is impacted since it doesn't penetrate cloudy skies, i.e., the rainy side, of the moutain. You will also get more radiation at higher elevations since there is less pollution, dust, etc. from us mortals.

Oh, sorry. My mistake. :)

rofl that's exactly how it is here in Oahu.

The Windward side is always very wet/cloudy and the Leeward side is always dry/sunny.

Unfortunately I live on the Leeward side =[
