I had to drop AP Biology because there was a conflict in my schedule.
I want to self study and take the exam in May. Has anyone done this, and can you tell me how difficult it was? I have a Campbell & Reece textbook that my school uses, a study guide to go along with it, an AMSCO AP study guide, and a Prentice Hall study guide.

If I were you, I wouldn’t do it because of the new format, but here is a link from College Board that will give you a list of textbooks, and you click on the textbook you’re using and it’ll give you the chapters that the new curriculum will focus on:

thank you ^^

self-studying bio is not really too hard. i self-studied it this year (right before CB claimed to change the test). I don’t think the test will be any harder, in fact CB claims the new test is less memorization and more conceptually based and hence easier. I say you should go for it. Reading campbell’s is not necessary to score a 5 (though if you read it and understand like 80% of it you prob will get a 5). Really all you need is a cliff’s book and if you have a fair amount of prior bio knowledge you could prob study cliff 2 weeks before exam and score a 5.

thanks for the advice (:

Check the bozemanbiology videos on youtube! They are extremely helpful and easy to follow! Also, the cliffnotes book has everything summarized! Great tool as well! Good Luck!

Though if you haven’t had bio experience before, you will be skipping over the lab techniques section of the course. Part of your learning comes from labs and how to manipulate all the equipment. The labs really provide a hands-on view of what you’re learning, which is essential.
