OK so my AP Bio teacher keeps telling us that the Biology Olympiad is so much harder than the AP Biology Exam. What do you think? Is he telling the truth?

It's true for Physics and Chem, so I assume it's true for Bio.

The USABO (even the open exam) is much, much harder.

backslash is right. USABO is more difficult than Physics/Chem b/c there are so many ppl who are good at bio. the content is much easier, but the competition level is much higher.

What I meant is that the USABO Open Exam is harder than the AP Biology test, not the Chemistry/Physics Olympiad. I've never participated in either the Chemistry or the Physics Olympiad, so I can't comment on their difficulty relative to the Biology Olympiad.

err, yes i meant that as an additional point for the OP. :) sorry for the confusion

Well, I just took the semifinal exam and the Free response part is about similair difficulty or harder than AP Bio and MCQ is unimaginably more harder than that of AP Bio.

Olympiad.......! I had no idea what the questions were asking so I just guessed....

I heard the Olympiad is harder and requires a lot of knowledge of the content. in detail, also.

Sometimes, what the Olympiad asks you also requires a lot of insight, not just memorization of facts. Applying the knowns of biology to an unsolved problem, if you will.

I took the semifinal. WAYYY harder than the open exam. Some of the stuff you need to have taken other science courses to correctly answer.

The open was rediculously hard. Some of the stuff on that test I couldn't figure out even after rereading part of the Campbells book afterwards. I thought Chem oly was supposed to be relatively easier as I heard that the questions are similiar in difficulty to the AP b/c the people that write the exam also write AP.

The online USACHO exam makes me believe the same. I'm in AP Bio and AP Chem right now and it seems that the Chem olympiad is more related to Ap Chem than the Bio olympiad to AP Bio.

I took an AP Barrons test to practice for the biology olympiad semi finals. I got a 95/100 on my first try. On the actual semi final exam, there were words I didn't even knew existed. I could pass the AP exam but never get a near perfect score on that test.

AP Biology exam was not difficult, but the USABO turns boys into men.

So how much do you need to know for the AP Bio exam? In my class we've just finished embryology.

the USABO turns boys into men.

If only I knew that sooner... then I wouldn't have uselessly expended all that ATP to go through puberty.

But what about USABO girls?

they change into men also

USABO is a catalyst for sequential hermaphroditism.. got it.
