Im a junior taking AP Biology this upcoming school year, and just wanted to hear any thoughts or concerns about the class. did anyone find it unreasonably difficult?thanks
Totally depends on the teacher. My son really wanted to take this because it would relate well to college plans but the A.P. Bio teacher at his school is a Bear who loves to make it harder than necessary and loves to give poor grades. He can’t risk the GPA so he’s taking physics instead. Bummer. Sad too because he is really interested in the topic.
As @Empireapple mentioned, it truly does depend on the teacher.
The teacher at my school is an idiot. I don’t think he understands the point of an Advanced Placement class is to teach to their curriculum, and not your own. As such, we learned nothing to help us towards the exam, and our grades had to be greatly inflated (or we would’ve all failed).
However, there is an upside. The AP Biology exam is partly made for students being taught by idiots. For instance, an FRQ is designing a graph. Simple, right?
I encourage you to ask previous AP Bio students at your school. Ask them what scores they got on the AP Exam.
If a lot of people say they got 4s and 5s because of said-teacher. Then, no worries. If they got 3- below, I recommend buying a prep-book, today! By the way, I see a “3,” as bad because me (a kid who knows jack about APbio) got it.
Regardless of your teacher, I personally think that AP Bio is hard. Especially since, the format differs than most AP exams.
Some teachers might try to weed out weaker students to improve their pass rates. After a year with low scores, D’s teacher started out really harsh and made the first test unreasonably difficult. A third of the students failed, then dropped the class. After that the teacher got noticeably nicer/tests more reasonable.
