Question:Hello everyone I have a concern which is whether or not to take AP Calc BC OR AB:

My situation:

involves the fact that currently I'm in Pre-calculs and maintaining a high A.However, i have heard that AP Calc BC is strenous and fast-paced. I have always been good at math, but I do not want to end up with a C in the class.

So my question is AP Calc BC worth it with a B for the year to AP Calc AB with an A hopefully?
AP Calc BC presumably has a better curve and the AB Subscore but, is this worth my time considering my schedule which it this next year:

I am trying to decide if my senior course load is rigorous enough:
- AP Calculus(AB or BC)
- AP Physics
- AP Stats
- AP Macro-Economics
- AP Govn't and Law
- Advanced Senior Seminar(English)
- Science Research Honors Program( like the one that that enter Intel ISEF competition and SIEMENS)

I have taken this AP's so far:
-AP Euro(5)
-AP Bio(4)
-AP Chem(dk no yet hoping for a 5)

Is this enough for a Straight BS-MD Program and would Med School require a math class caliber of BC Calc as it provides 2 semester of credit.

*I'm not neccesarily aiming for a prestigious university but a decent one

I would tremendously appreciate your help!!! Thanks!=)

I would take BC because most people at my school (who are actually good at math) say that its not that much more challenging than AB. Also, colleges want to see students challenge themselves and you may even end up with an A in BC.

Calc BC has a higher percentage of 5’s because the students that take that class are really the top math students. For college admissions, there is not advantage to BC over AB. For med school BC does not matter, since you also have AP Stats. If you think you can handle the workload and devote the time needed to write college essays and apps, take BC if you think you can get at least a B. A C in the class will do you no favors.

BC is calculus at the college pace, AB is at the high school pace.

If you are going for med school you’ll need to repeat Calculus 1 and 2 in college regardless of your AP score.

AB will make your HS experience easier but your college experience harder, BC will be vise-versa. Your call really. I would go with BC tho.

Not necessarily true. Many medical schools have no calculus requirement, some which do accept AP scores, and those which require actual college courses accept more advanced calculus courses (e.g. multivariable calculus or real analysis, although most pre-meds are not in majors that require such more advanced courses).

It is, however, a good idea to try the college’s old final exams for courses that you are allowed to skip with AP credit, so that you can check your knowledge against the college’s idea of what the course covers.
