Ap calc ab vs ap calc bc

So i began the year in BC, it was hard since pre-calc didn't really help me, and scored a 58 on the first test and a 70 on the second test.

i now have the choice of staying in BC with low grades (very close to failing (65-80) OR transfering into AB where i can get a 85+

which path should i choose? i need an answer by tomorrow! thanks!

My son’s HS has recommended kids with less than As in Honor Pre-cal to take the Cal-AB route.

If you are not able to cope with BC, go AB. Better to get a good score on AB, than a fail in BC. And also, if you have the resources, get private tutoring or if your teachers are good, get help after school. I have seen many kids just not willing to ask for extra help (not saying this is you :))

so it would look better taking AB and getting a good grade than BC which is a harder course and getting a better than failing grade?

Definitely - An A in AB will look better than a C in BC.
However - if YOU have the time to get extra tutoring and devote yourself to BC calculus, you can get your grade to a B in BC calculus. I would strongly suggest you talk to your teacher and counselor and to other students to see if your current C or D in BC calculus is just due to a start of school year. Some students will start out bad but then catch up by semester end. Please talk to your teacher and ask for opinion from past students as to the trend.

Definitely drop. A B or something in an advanced class can help you since you’re challenging yourself, but a close to failing grade is a sign that you’re not in the right level. Calc AB is still impressive, so just drop and remember that you’ll still be in an AP class. :)

Be aware, though, that when you get to college, math courses will cover material at a pace more like BC.

Drop BC if it’s too hard.

so its leaning towards dropping BC.

@ ucbalumnus, my school is broke, the only reason i’m having problems with it is that the class is 1 period instead of being 2 periods everyday, there are only asian people who just came from china in the class now.

feedback please!

If you think you will get a B or C in BC, it is better to switch to AB. Although BC is certainly the better class if grades are equivalent, an A in AB is much preferable to a B in BC.
