AP Calculus AB 2013 Thread

Absolute value is redundant since G(t)>0 on the interval (0,8). Integration would always yield positive area under the curve.

Absolute value wouldnt have mattered i think. it was 90-45cos(t^2/16 (or something)) which would never be negative.

Ok good, one more question right :stuck_out_tongue: and yea i didnt add absolute value

does anyone remember the equation for the horizontal asymptotes? have we concluded an answer for that one? i put 0 lol :stuck_out_tongue: i guessed though. Also for the last frq what was the first part? i can remember

It was y=-3.

You expand the top function and the bottom function. Use the shortcut (when the powers are equal, there is a horizontal asymptote at y=coefficient of top/coefficient of bottom). It was -12/4 I think.

For the problem concerning the x-coordinate of a line tangent to y=x^2+x+3 and passing through the point (0,1):

f(x)=x^2+x+3
f’(x)=2x+1

Point-slope form: f(x)-1=f’(x)*x //Must pass through (0,1) with a slope equal to f’(x)
(x^2+x+3)-1=(2x+1)x //Substitute
x^2+x+2=2x^2+x //Simplify
2=x^2
x=sqrt(2)

For the horizontal asymptote, I got -12/2, not 3… I think I got root 2 if that was C, what I guessed for all of my guesses.

You might have forgotten to expand the bottom expression. I believe it was (2x+1)^2 for the bottom and you forgot to square the 2.

Sqrt(2) was letter B I think. Sqrt(3) was letter C.

What time do the FRQ’s come out tomorrow?

I think the cutoff for a 5 will be a tad under 68 this year since this test, IMHO, was harder than the practice tests that I used from 2008 and definitely 2012. You can probably get around 10 MC wrong and 5’s across the board on the FRQs and get a 5 (according to AP Pass).
However, I am not sure about when the guessing penalty came in, so it might be just above 68, in which case what I mentioned would still hold to give you a 5.

@JordanSaidWhat you could also get the point for putting the C at the end of the antiderivatives and plugging initial condition in…

I think i messed up the mc on the inverse trig one…curses! But that was the only one that i completely guessed, the others i got all right pretty sure…

The FRQ’s should be released by 4 PM EDT on Friday according to the college board twitter account.

Also, idk why some of you guys are discussing the FRQ’s/MCQ’s when clearly we aren’t supposed to.

You must be new here…

What time EST are the Frqs being released and where?

4 eastern, on AP Central

When the frqs are released, does anyone want to solve if them and post the answers as pictures or on a google docs? :D

Don’t they release the answers as well?

Not until the summer.

I am. But it’s your score on the line… Not mine. :rolleyes:
