Title says it all. I got an A in Pre-Calculus (96.5%), but I’m not exactly sure if I’m prepared enough. Would taking the latter decision be better for people like me?
I think since you are unsure whether you are prepared enough, the best course of action is to take Calc AB in junior year and then BC in senior year, and maybe you could add AP stats in senior year if your school allows you to double in math (and you’re interested in it enough.)
I had a friend who took AP Calc AB and BC at the same time. He was overwhelmed and did not do well. He does not recommend it.
In my SD, students can take only one or the other, not both. If I recall correctly, the students who began on the honors track and remained on it throughout, took BC. Those who began on the honors track but then dropped off (so that they were a year ahead in math but taking regular level with the grade ahead as opposed to honors with their own cohort) took AB.
The AP Calculus teacher does both AB and BC and has a very good reputation among former students, including my sister. The teacher is notorious for the difficulty of her class, but rumored to be the only one able to prepare students for what’s up ahead in college. Considering this and my circumstances, I’m leaning towards AB junior and BC senior, but I feel like I’m passing a great opportunity to get ahead not taking BC junior year.
Would it actually look worse on an application to do both AB and BC over BC and Stats?
there is NO advantage to taking a class you are not FULLY ready to take AND get GREAT grades in during your all important Jr year.
So take AB your Jr year and BC your Sr year.
