AP Calculus AB question - one semester switch

Hi

If anyone has experience of students switching to an outside class like BYU after one semester of AP calculus AB at school ( junior year) , please share your feedback. It does not constitute as a course drop in the transcript for college. Does it? Is that switch accepted by colleges? Thanks in advance

Iā€™m not sure what you mean by ā€˜accepted by collegesā€™

If you mean will they grant college credit for the course? Thatā€™s a question for the individual college. Every one treats both AP test scores and outside college courses taken in HS differently. And different departments within the same school sometimes treat AP scores differently.

If you mean will they view it as a legitimate rigorous college-prep class on your HS transcript for the purpose of admissions decisions, that is a different question.

Iā€™ve never heard of changing classes at the semester to be considered a ā€œcourse dropā€ for the purpose of admissions. Especially if the course you are going into is of equivalent rigor. Students do that all the time for any number of reasons including mundane things like scheduling conflicts. What would look bad is if you dropped a course and it showed up as an ā€œincompleteā€ on your transcript.

What is the reason for the change?

Taking one half of a year-long course and then stopping seem like dropping it - what else would it be? The high school would give you a more definitive answer than anyone here.

Fwiw, I would recommend against writing an essay to answer this question, but maybe thatā€™s just me.
