Ap Calculus BC.. should I drop it?

I really know I shouldn't drop math in my senior year... But I'm terrible at it. I might possibly even get a C.. (from sophomore on, i miraculously saved myself from a C although i was really close to it.. I just get good enough semester test scores)

In my opinion, it would be worse to have a C although it's an AP class. (I already had my first VERY PAINFUL C with AP chemistry that I dropped)

So should I drop it, drop down to AB (although I heard it's just as hard) or take some other math instead? (like statistics or something) or just take another AP class so it wont mess up my all AP schedule this yr?

P.S. I'm panicking already because I don't understand limits (the first chapter) and I never did (i didn't really get it in algebra II and I wasn't there for the review in pre-calc.. we kinda jumped in to limits in calculus) can somebody get me a site that talks about limits in a easy to understand manner or just tell me?

http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/

You should find something helpful there. By the way, which part of limits don't you understand? Are you having trouble with "delta-epsilon" limits, or just everything in general?

If you're having trouble with limits, you should be in Calc AB, not BC. That's where you get the foundations for differentiation. In BC, you'd breeze past that and get on to inferentiation, and you'll be in bigger trouble down the line.

Inferentiation? Do you mean integration?

or differentiation...

I agree, try AB instead of BC, if your school offers it. It will be more slowly paced and give you more time to learn the foundations. Trust me on this, I've been there ;)

Doh. Yes...the one with the big S that means "sum of" that's the opposite of the derivative...I need sleep.

Talk to your AP Calc teacher and see what he/she says. I agree that taking AB is probably your best option. It's still a rigorous class, but it covers the material more slowly, giving you more time to understand everything. Also, ditto to apmcavoy question - if it's the "delta-epsilon" limits that you're having trouble with, the don't worry - they won't be tested on the AP exam and I don't think they're crucial. I didn't actually even learn them till Calc III

Actually, I went over my notes and I'm understanding it. =_=;; It's amazing that i didn't understand this crap for 3 days and I looked at my notes closely for 3 minutes and now I do... I never really got limits, that was just something I was just really weak at.

The teacher who teaches AB is the same guy who teaches BC and he says it won't be any easier, only slower paced in 2nd semester... so I don't know. He says don't just drop this course if you think AB's going to easier so...@.@ dunno. I guess I'll wait n see?

My teacher was like that too. Basically, the class isn't listed as an AP class, but he strongly recommended that we all take the AP test in May (although whether we wanted to take AB or BC was up to us). I, of course, just HAD to sign up for the BC test. So we flew through the book and none of us really understood what we were learning for a long time (eventually, though, it does click, but then you're on to even more confusing stuff so it doesn't matter). I spent two weeks before the test literally JUST doing math. I crammed. I blew off all my other work as much as I could get away with. I managed to pull off a 4, but without all that studying I don't think I'd have even gotten a 2. If I had just taken the AB test, I could have saved myself a LOT of work, because by April and May I knew all the AB stuff well. So I would just take AB, if I had to do it over again.

You see, I'm not planning to take the AP test (i just want it for my application) because like I've said.. I suck at math. (cough) I'm thinking about taking BC 1st semester and then dropping down to AB 2nd semester.. it's the same teacher and apprantly the same thing we are learning....

But AP calc test for moi? (haha) But congratulations on your 4! Gees, that's awesome, I wish I could do that.

Oh I thought you were taking the test too. If you really hate math and don't do well at it, I'd just go ahead and take AB. Like your teacher said, it goes at a slower pace, which is always good.
