***AP Calculus BC Thread 2015-2016***

@Mjain10 @writerzt71 Hmm, that’s interesting. So technically, you really don’t have to be super solid at BC topics to get a 5 on the exam.

@wormholes exactly

@wormholes Which is actually bad because it leaves some students unprepared for higher level math courses. They are expected to know things that they didn’t learn.

@CollegeMan91 Yeah it does seem a bit counterproductive; oh well.

@wormholes The whole system of teaching to the test is messed up. Rather than teaching the necessary concepts, schools have resorted to teaching kids how to ace the AP test. This helps nobody! It just places students in upper-level classes that they have no business in. Then again, I don’t have a good proposal for a solution. Oh well indeed.

I think a good compromise for AP teachers is to teach the course material, and then apply it to the test. I know without this strategy, I wouldn’t have done nearly as well as I did on the micro/ macro exam.

5 and subscore 5

I got a 5 with a sub score of 4. Is that possible??? Is it a glitch???

somehow got 5s on BC and AB subscore even though I completely screwed up the funnel and series frqs what in the world

Got a 5, even though I screwed up one of the FRQs

@fantasyreader I also got a 5 with a subscore of 4. My calc teacher said she tends to get at least one student every year with a lower subscore. It’s not a glitch, we’re just very lucky students who happened to do better at the BC topics than the AB topics

5 and 5. For anyone else who wasn’t a senior this year, are you guys doing any postcalc classes at your high school next year?

bc is so easy that theyre changing the exam next year. imo its even easier than ab.
half of all test takers got 5.

BC is not necessarily easy, but the reason why half of test takers get 5 is that usually, AB comes first, so this is their second year of calc. Not only this, but BC is just Calc AB with a few added topics.

Anyone here self studied for BC after taking AB? Which book would you recommend?

@Pri930 I took AB in school, self-studied for BC, and got a 5 and a 5 subscore. I just used Barron’s AP Calc BC. It was very helpful to learn the extra topics such as series

Thanks @MrDavis97

Lol I got a 5 overall and a 4 on AB. So I must have done pretty well on Taylor series and stuff like that and done not nearly as well on basic stuff. I actually expected that

5 with subscore of 5 lol I totally bombed one question (4), must’ve gotten 2 points on that but I guess I did well enough yay

Wow! Congrats guys! Waiting for my results tomorrow! Yay Connecticut haha!
