Hey guys! I have signed up to take AP chem this year and while I do enjoy chemistry, I am more of a bio person. Do u think I will be miserable in this class since I lean more towards liking bio? Also, do bio and chem overlap a lot? Thanks

Chemistry is often necessary to really understand biology, which is why biology majors are often required to take general and organic chemistry. If you’re planning on majoring in biology, you will likely have to take chemistry in college, and the extra exposure in high school will be very helpful. If you decide that you really hate chemistry, you may be able to use the AP credit so that you do not have to take general chemistry in college. You may also decide that you like chemistry–there’s nothing particularly mutually exclusive about them.

Thx for the advice!

Chem and bio definitely do overlap. And since you did say that you somewhat like chemistry, I don’t think you’ll be miserable! Plus, the course may help you prepare for the chemistry subject test.

A biologist without a solid chemistry background will never truly understand biology in the 21st century. A little physics doesn’t hurt either.

It’s not the fact that it is chemistry so much as that it is a physical science. I find chemistry to be really interesting but I hated Biology. Cannot stand life science, but you may find that you like both.

Thanks guys! Bump…

As others have mentioned, you cannot understand biology without an understanding of chemistry.
