AP Chem. is hard!

So, I'm basically a "humanities" kid anyway. A few colleges I'd really like: Yale, Dartmouth, Amherst, Middlebury...

But I'm getting a B or so in chem, and I don't do very well on labs. It just doesn't come easily. Anyways, do you think these colleges will hold my chem grade against me (you never know, it could go down)?

I don't want to do much of anything in science, but it is a pretty important class not to screw up.

Yes i am not going to lie, ap chem is hard, even for someone like me who is good at science. In high school though if you are appyling to a top college, it does not matter where you are good at. THey expect you to be good at everything so its only ap. Later in college, can you show your humanities side. I am a science person, and am forcced to work crazy hard for humanities classes that don't mean crap to me. A senior in my school from harvard told me this. If you are going to go to a top college, you just have to show you are good at everything. YOu have to get higher grades than the science obssesed kid who just wants to go to a easy state college. I know this sux. But from what i gather 1 b is not gonna kill you. This kid who went to harvard got one b in an important humanities class.
If i were you, study chem in chunks. Every time you go over a section, do some extra problems THAT night to reinforce it. Also read your textbook. I don't know what testbook you have but reading Brown and Lemay over and over again helped a lot.

Um yeah, I have a 36 in that class right now...don't get me started.

hmmmm AP Chem at my school is impossibly easy...the class averages are like 97s and when ppl take the AP they get either a 4 or a 5...maybe it's just ur teacher..

AP chem has to be the hardest class I've taken. the funny thing is that I've chosen it as my major. i have a great teacher and I completely understand the stuff we do in class and then our tests are so long and random that I'm rushed through them and yeah I cant make above a 92 on the tests. I know if I studied more I'd do better, case in point, made 100 on exam. Problem is I don't know how to study it, cuz I feel like I know the material. I'm maintaining an A (95) halfway through semester so I just want to keep an A. Don't know what I'll do when I get to college and am forced to study. The thing is for once I feel like I'm being challenged and I LOVE that.

Since I'm a freshman, I haven't taken any Chem classes yet, but we did a Chem mini-unit in my Bio H class. I love science, but, I have to admit, it was a lot harder than biology for me.

Unfortunately, A-Card is right. Colleges would really prefer you be proficient in everything, regardless of your career interests. However, a B really isn't a horrible grade. Just don't feel ashamed to ask for extra help!

I have a B in regular chem... :(

depends on your teacher really, ap chem is like a super easy boost for your gpa at my school...but then I guess we don't learn anything in that class and is pretty much screwed for the exam

It really depends on the teacher, I took the course sophomore year and never got anything below a 95 and got a 4 in contrast to AP Bio where most of my tests were C's.

I hate AP Chem. I'm hoping for a 3.

:/
what...did you expect it to be easy or something?

Yea, I have heard it is really hard...I am taking AP Bio but I have heard from other students.

Don't worry too much about one B. Colleges will look at how you did together by calculating a GPA and looking at your rank. I'm sure one B in an AP class won't ruin your future.

true story ( my friends way of saying, i agree )

I'm a humanties girl, and I hate science and math even though I'm good at them. Surprisingly, I got an A in both AP Chem and Pre-Cal, and B's in AP Lang and AP World.

Junior year is CRAZY.

I chose it over AP Bio because the AP Bio teacher in my school sucks so I knew that I was guaranteed a low mark. But AP Chem is evil. I'm a Humanities girl.

I self-studied Chem basically (bad, bad teacher) but got a 720 on the SAT II and 100 on Regents (yay!) but anyway, review books I liked and WILL HELP: 1) Barrons SAT (pain in the arse, but REALLY detailed and good) 2) Regents Chemistry (blue book)....also, I would get an AP Chem book. My advice: Do Regents to get a concept basically, Barrons SAT Chem to get you up to speed on details, and AP to go over sample questions you might get in class. Good luck-you can do it!

I'm taking regular chem (highest school offers), but I think I'll self-study for the AP test. It doesn't look too hard.

Ha doesn't look hard. Alright try it out and see what happens. You could be very smart and work like crazy and get a 5, but don't underestimate it. There is a lot of general knowledge you need to know which comes through labs etc, which just can't be crammed. Oh well good luck to all of you.

Well, doesn't look to hard is quite subjective. I self-studied two APs last year, so even though I'm not that smart, I have experience self-studying. I'm actually starting right about now, so I'll hopefully be prepared by then. Of course, most of it doesn't make sense yet, but I'm hoping it will.

chem homework tonight was a blur. somehow i have the highest grade in our two ap classes and yet its just barely an A (94.7). dont underestimate this stuff. it's not so easy.
