i am also self studying chem, and i am using PR for it. PR covers everything for the exam, except the lab. does anyone know how i can get some lab notes? thanks!

Cliff's has a really nice, comprehensive section on labs...I have both Cliff's and PR and I definitely think Cliff's is a better overall review for the test than PR (more comprehensive than PR but less detail-crammed like Barron's is).

PR IS great. I'm self-studying chem too and I just reviewed the entire book in a week. I'm just worried about descriptive chem and maybe if they throw in some organic chem I'm going to be a bit clueless but otherwise, it isn't so bad ;)

Zumdahl's an easy text.
Brown, Lemay is more difficult to comprehend.

Yeah Zumdahl is cool. The language is not too concentrated and embellished making it easier to understand.

barron's sucks ballz. i can't believe i ever used it.

pr + zumdalh is the best. use pr to quickly understand all the basics and zumdalh to go in depth to where u need more help.

Brown, Lemay is a completely foreign language. Zumdalh (my book for first year chem) was not terrible, but not wonderful.

Am I the only one out there that bought Kaplan's book? erm...to be honest, I haven't really read much of it, but it makes sense, if maybe a little too vague.

For my complaints on my chem teacher, see my posts under AP tests in the High School Topics under Med & Pre-Med. My school averages 2's on AP Chem
