Some of you may be thinking that this question has been asked before, but this is sort of different. I’m going into Junior year and I think that I want to major in Physics. The thing is that I’m not sure if I should take AP Chem, as it looks good to have lots of APs and it can’t really hurt me, or Honors Physics, (my school doesn’t offer AP Physics) as it will give me a feel for if I really want to major in Physics. If I end up taking Physics then my Junior year will only have 3 APs which I feel isn’t as rigorous as I would like.
Why not take both?
I’m taking both AP Chem and IB physics this year. Although it isn’t Honors physics I imagine they’re pretty similar. If I were you I’d ask some of the teachers/students who have taught/taken the class how difficult they each were to find out if taking both would be possible for you.
Yes, it has been asked before; no, it is not different.
If you plan on applying to a top college that recommends a year of bio, chem, and physics, take honors physics before delving into AP’s. If you’re contemplating a physics major, take honors physics before delving into AP’s. If you can take both concurrently without impacting another core subject, that is an option. Otherwise, physics.
I totally agree with skieurope! I was in the same position as you, but I opted for both (found a way). However, physics was my number 1 choice! Its important to get 3 years of lab science, covering at least 1 year each of biology, chemistry, and physics. Why the doubt if you think you want to major in physics? Go ahead and take physics!
