This year, taking AP Chemistry, has been a nightmare so far. On all of the mini quizzes, the lab reports, lab posters etc I have a 98% average. But, when it comes to the test, my grade gets destroyed. I study like crazy and love chemistry, but in every test he'll throw in questions that we have never seen or know how to do, and they don't even seem to fit in with the unit. For example, in the Electrochemistry unit test, he threw in questions involving complex stoichiometry which we have never seen before and thermodynamics which is our next unit. I currently have about a 75-ish in that class due to this. I just don't know what to do. Is this normal? I feel as if we should be tested on what he taught us, not on what he hasn't. Thank you...

Is everyone in the class doing the same or are they getting those challenging questions right? If so, you need to figure out what they are doing that you aren’t. If not, your teacher should be curving tests or needs to justify adding these tough questions that no one can get right.

@VSGPeanut101 No one completed the test, unless they just wrote gibberish so that they could get some points for ‘trying’.

If no one is succeeding in the class, the teacher should be willing to recenter the test or modify future tests so that students are capable of doing the work. If the teacher is unreasonable and the administration cannot help you, perhaps getting out of the class is your best option. I would try other remedies before dropping it, however.
