Ohmygod freaking out.

Ok so I'm enrolled in AP chem, and it's god awful.

Okay, so I bombed the first test and got a 60 because I ran out of time. I just got a quiz back today and I got a 6 out of 40.

But the worst part is that I do all of the review and get all of the problems in the book right, as well as all the homework problems. I even do practice problems out of my AP review book and I completely get the material. When it comes to the test, I forget to do like one conversion an then my teacher takes off ALL the points.

Right now, I have a 60% in tests, which count as 50% of our grade, and then a 70% in quizzes ( i got 100's on the last 3 quizzes) which is 20% of our grade. My final grade is a 65% right now. Is there ANY way I can possibly get a B in this class, or have I already screwed myself over?

Have you talked to your teacher?

This is something that you need to talk to your teacher about ASAP!

try harder next time/

If your teacher is that bad, maybe its better to just drop it and attempt to self-study?

Otherwise, you may benefit from sticking it out in the class (passing the AP exam!)… that is, if you can handle the loss of GPA.

I would talk to the teacher first and talk about your grade, tutoring and etc. I’m in AP Chemistry too and it isn’t a cake walk. You have will power because 2 or 3 students in my class dropped the class after the first test. If you really feel like dropping the class, I would wait until the next test so you can properly study and get some tutoring time with your teacher. Here’s one thing MANY AP Chemistry students look over, AP Chemistry and Chemistry altogether isn’t just about solving problems to get an answer, it’s all about problem solving. You have to know why and how you got that answer logically. Everything in Chemistry stacks on itself, it’s like building a house. Physics is kind of the same way. On our test, we have problems we never saw before, but we use a lot of the skills we’ve learned in the past chapters, and in the current chapters to arrive at an answer. I came up with this little reminder, “CHEM-IS-TRY.” Get it? Chemistry is trial and error. You have to TRY to come to a conclusion. Try to endure AP Chemistry a little longer, and if it’s still not working out, then drop it if you care more about your GPA than getting better at something that takes practice.

I’ll talk to my teacher tomorrow, although I doubt it will help my grade. This thread was mostly for spilling out my feelings cause I feel awful right now

@Vesperia: Wow, that was insightful. I’ll definitely try to push through with your advice.

I wasn’t asking if you talked to you teacher so you could fix your grade. U was asking if you talked to your teacher because you lack in being able to take the tests.

p.s. i wouldn’t self study AP Chem. It is pretty much classified as the hardest AP course ever…
