AP Chemistry Lab

In chemistry today, we did our first AP Chemistry lab on Acid and Base Titrations. My teacher was giving us a hard time and rushing us and saying that the AP Chemistry teacher expects us to known how to do Titrations and use proper equipment. When we were doing our analysis and conclusions, she only gave us 10 minutes. It might sound long, but it wasn't. Me and my lab partner was still cleaning up our station so we had 5 minutes to do the questions. I finished my analysis but didn't do ANY of the conclusion. She wouldn't let us take the lab home to finish it.

I felt like this lab was rushed. If you took AP Chemistry, are the labs always "rushed" or fast paced?

It really does depend on the teacher. My AP chem teacher gives us like a week for a full lab report: purpose, background, experimental procedure, data, analysis (including post-lab questions), conclusion. but she expected us to at least know what we were doing during the lab procedure and extra time meant staying after school. so in general, the ap chemistry teacher expects you to know some of the labs from chem well and do them quickly, but new labs are if slightly, slower.

I don’t understand why she wouldn’t let you take the lab home though.

I wouldn’t think so. Having said that, I won’t be doing AP chem until next school year; but students in the class right now are doing a lab over the span of 4 weeks. Normally their labs are about a week or so in length.

Okay, I was just frightened. My teacher always gives us a hard time.

Haha in our ap class we usually had the entire 100 min class period for a lab and would usually have until the next period for turning the entire lab report in. Then again, our labs were pretty much jokes and we just trolled around.

Expecting lab reports done so quickly and accurately is expecting far too much and is not the case in ap chem. Especially considering that titrations take a while…
