AP Chemistry score is not as good as SAT Subject

I am disappointed that I got a 4 on my AP Chemistry test. After I finished the test I knew that I could have done better and that I made incredibly stupid mistakes. However, I got an 800 on my SAT Chemistry. I would consider myself to be a solid AP Chemistry student as I received an A in the class without too much work. I don’t know whether or not I should retake the AP Chemistry test next year for a 5. Will elite colleges frown upon my 4 and think that my 800 was a fluke?

No; a 4 is a very respectable score, especially considering Chemistry’s one of the harder sciences.

  1. Know that the subject test for Chem is an absolute joke. You literally do not have to understand that much chemistry for it.
  2. You want to waste $90+ for a retake of a test to gain back like 10 points? If you have money to blow, then sure. Otherwise, 4 is fine.

Most people retake general chemistry(ap chemistry equivalent) in top colleges. The Sat Chemistry test is much easier than the AP exam. The AP exam tests you in depth on concepts. The Sat chem tests you on making quick calculations, knowing some trivia, and maybe a few questions on applying the actual concepts. Also, a 4 is great. The new exam only had around 8% of people getting 5’s. This is nearly on par with Biology’s harsh curve. A 4 should also give you at least first semester credit in a top college.
