I’m planning on taking 6 AP classes next year (Junior year) and wondering how manageable it would be with SAT studying/Subject tests.
This is my projected schedule:
AP Physics 2
AP Calculus BC
AP English Language
AP US History
AP Seminar
AP Psychology/PSAT Team (Both are one semester courses. PSAT Team first semester and AP Psychology second)
Pre-AP Spanish III
Academic Decathlon
I would also appreciate it if you guys could give me any of your experiences with any of these classes.
Thanks!
I’m a junior currently taking 5 APs:
Calc BC
Comp Sci
Lang
Bio (double period)
World
Physics: Heard it is one of the hardest AP, but since it’s not AP Physics C, it may not be as hard…
Calc BC: It’s a breeze if your doing Calc AB right now. Personally, BC Calc is easier than pre-calc.
Lang: Pretty easy if your naturally a good writer. Difficulty and workload for Lang always differ from school to school since every teacher grades differently and/or harder.
US History: I took it freshmen year so it was demanding, but as a junior it shouldn’t be one of your harder classes.
Seminar: I have a few friends taking it this year and they all seem pretty stressed with all the research and papers they have to write.
Psych: According to my experience, psych is the easiest AP. It was honestly my easiest class last year.
Although workload for classes differ from every school, I’ve noticed that 5 AP classes is manageable. When I was a sophomore I posted on College Confidential asking if doing 5 was too much (look at my threads), worrying that I would feel too stressed. However, I noticed that it’s really not too bad, especially if your the type of student that has consistently gotten As. I will admit though, it gets pretty stressful mid-year when you need to start thinking about SAT/ACT, SAT Subject Tests, and AP Tests…Good luck and let me know what you decide.
Just wondering, how do you take 8 classes? My county has 7 classes that are around 50 minutes each.
@Gunkz123
I’m most likely going to go on with what I have for now. Would it help if I study for a few AP’s over the summer? I’m guessing that if I already knew a lot of the material for…say, Physics, I wouldn’t have to work as hard in the class.
We’re able to take 8 classes because we have a double-block schedule (A day, B day). So we have 4 classes a day that are 1.5 hours long.
@DeTennis if your really determined to actually study over the summer, then it would help. Nevertheless, it will be stressful for the majority of junior year, especially if your doing sports or a lot of extracurriculars.
