AP class versus college class

This year I have the option of taking AP Psych at my HS- its one of the most popular classes and everyone says its a guaranteed A or taking a Psych class at a nearby university.

The college isnt a community college but its like a relatively small private school.

What looks better to college: an AP class or an actual college class?

I wouldn;t have my grade in time for the class because the semester ends in December obviously so the college im applying to wouldn't even know.

i looked it up and the college is ranked around #75 on US News and world report.idk if that helps

for the college class i know i will have to write 8 papers by december b/c there are no tests

i’m taking a few college classes over AP this year, mainly because I’ll still get credit for them, and I’ll get to see what it’s like to take college classes before actually going to college. Also, I’ll get free access to many events, a gym, etc. If I were you, I’d take the college class, it’s just gonna show you what it’s like to be in college and you’ll most likely get many benfits at the college and around town from being a student.

to be honest the class is mostly online and the college is right by my high school so its not that big of difference,.

what would college rather see, antoher AP or a college class on the good ole transcript

This is how it was explained to me at my school: colleges don’t like to see a student taking college classes until he/she has exhausted the high school curriculum. I don’t know how that applies to you, but it might be something to keep in mind.

thats interesting because in my opinion it would seem like i am challenging myself more if i take a college class

bump???

Take the AP classes when it’s available, more schools give credit for it and in the end I don’t think that school care that much about one class at a college, particularly not something like psychology. Another thing to consider is when you apply to grad school or anywhere else you have to send transcripts to, you’re always going to have to go back and get that transcript.

Once you run out of APs in an area, then pursue college classes then that area.

Does your HS do rank with weightings? Sounds like AP will help your GPA. I’ld say go with AP. Many colleges realize that anyone who can write a check can take a college course, but the AP courses have more uniformity. Good luck.

my school doesnt rank gpa at all so it wouldnt even benefit me…the college class is really cheap because of the connection between my HS and the college…like 200 bucks
