AP Class vs. Community College Class?

Hello all! I'm attempting to create my senior schedule and am interested in the youth options at my community college. Youth options allows high schoolers to take courses at the college for free. My question is: Do colleges view community college courses as the same caliber as AP courses? This

No - community college classes are not standard amongst colleges and are, more often than not, easier than high school honors courses. Colleges know this. AP classes, on the other hand, are standardized and are thus a more reliable indicator of demonstrated course rigor in one’s secondary school record.

I’d recommend taking the AP version of a course rather than the community college version whenever applicable if you are concerned with rigor.

Thank you!!! I think I’ll still try out mandarin at the college - we don’t have it at our hs.

AP is better when there’s an AP equivalent for a class offered at your school.
Community colleges are ideal for taking classes your high school doesn’t offer or that are above the level of AP classes (multivariable calculus, organic chemistry, etc.).

Our youth options program only allows one to take classes at the community college if they’ve taken the ap class in that discipline or our hs is lacking in a class in that subject.

I’m trying to make the same choice about AP or college. I’m considering a course at community college (nanobiology), but that would mean I would have a shortened day at school and can’t take as many AP classes. I have already taken AP Bio and want to apply to straight meds but also tier 1 undergrads. Our high school offers no other biology-oriented classes. Do I go with community college nanobio or random AP (obviously not completely random, but not something directly applicable for my major)?

Sorry for not replying at all. I haven’t been on CC for a while! I would suggest taking nanobiology. It is applicable to your major, sure to be a difficult class, and of interest to you!

I decided to go with my community college class too - International Politics! I’m really excited!
