Hi everyone! I wasn’t sure where to put put this but it’s on AP classes so…
Anyways at my school we have AP classes that you can take, but there are also AP classes sponsored by colleges. I live in CT and my school offers UCONN AP Classes. If you get a B- or above you quailfy for college credit at UCONN. The credit costs about $100 per class but it says that you’d get college credits if you go to UCONN.
But the thing is that my school is encouraging everyone to apply. They just say that you’d get college credit. But you only get UCONN college credit. I don’t want to go to UCONN. But would the so called “credits” if I apply, work for other colleges or would it just work for UCONN?
I don’t want to spend money on something that I don’t want or need. I know that many colleges offer credit if you get a 4 or 5 on your AP classes. You don’t have to buy it. I just want some clarifcation on this and I was wondering if your schools do something similar?
it is extremely unlikely that you will get credit from colleges other than UConn; most colleges will not accept credit for college classes taken if the course fulfills HS graduation requirements and/or the courses are taught in a HS setting. Better to take the AP exam.
Well, there is still a cost involved with the exam, which is ~ $92.00.
Many colleges offer credit if you get a 4 or 5 on the exams. But each exam costs almost $100. So it’s not exactly free. Also, many schools don’t offer credit, or won’t give you credit for a class that is in your major (they want you to take their class). So, AP exams are no guarantee either.
Our school doesn’t do what you described.
If the class gives you credit for a school you don’t intend to apply to, then I don’t see the point. Are there regular AP classes? Can you take those and then the AP exam? Or are these the only “AP” classes offered. In which case, maybe you should take these as preparation for the AP exams. (Also, will they show up on your transcript as “AP” showing the rigor of your coursework?)
Okay I see. I know that AP classes cost around $90. I was just curious about my schools offer of UCONN credit.
Thanks for your answers guys! It was really helpful and sorry about he late response.
