I’m currently a grade 10 student in Canada, and next year I’m taking Grade 11 English, grade 11 physics, grade 11 chemistry, vocal, grade 12 physics and grade 12 advanced functions. I’ve already taken grade 11 functions and grade 11 biology in grade 10 so that is out of the way. I’ll also be part of a medical research Co-op program which takes up 2 spare periods for one semester and counts as 2 credits. I want to take AP english language and composition, AP English literature and composition, and AP chemistry. Our gifted resource teacher said this is too much and I should only take one AP course each year, especially since I did not take any in grade 9 or 10. Should I re-evaluate taking 3 AP courses?
I took 3 AP courses as a sophomore and maintained a 4.0 easilt (My guidance counselor also discouraged me because no other student had ever taken that many). This year I am in 5 AP classes and two honors out of a 6 period scedule (one online). It’s rigorous but easily manageable for me, and I have an incredibly busy scedule with other activities including officer positions and two varsity sports. I don’t think 3 is too much at all, but it depends on the person and how much work you’d like to do. There is no doubt AP classes require more work, but they are a college level class.
Thank you! In grade 12 I don’t think I will take as many AP classes as you, I was thinking just AP physics and AP biology since I’ll likely be doing another research Co-op. Is it a bad idea to decrease the number of AP classes in senior year?
