Hey there, I have been doing pretty well on the multiple choice in the Barron's practice tests, but I don't do as well at the free response... Looking at other topics, I see that I am not alone. However, I have not found any tips in these topics...

Does anyone have any useful tips for the free response? Any tips on getting partial credit?

And please don't answer "Just read the question carefully and take your time." I thank you for your support, but I have been told this many times over.

Thanks in advance!

One thing my teacher always tells us is…write down something. That is, if you really don’t understand how to solve the problem, do as many things as you can do. Say, if the question instructs you to return some integer at the end of it, make sure you right down “return int;” or something along those lines. You’ll get points for at least attempting to do the things it ask [although you won’t get full credit - that’s reserved for doing it correctly], enough to get as many as half the points on some of them. CollegeBoard is surprisingly empathetic here; they want to see that you have an idea of what you’re supposed to do, even if you don’t do it perfectly. So always write something down.

[It may help to look at how past FRQ’s have been graded: <a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools;

Also, the spaces allotted for FRQ’s can be telling; if the booklet has a tiny space below the question, but you’re writing a page of code, there’s probably an easier way to do it [note: don’t rely too much on this, CB may have changed it or something but it applied on the practice test this year].

good luck tomorrow.
