I know that test was discontinued but colleges are still treating Comp Sci A like it's a joke test and a lot of colleges are only accepting 5's. I understand why colleges would treat tests that have a higher level that corresponds to it like Calc AB and Physics B as joke tests and wouldn't accept scores other than 5 but right now the Computer Science A test is the only test students can take now that AB doesn't exist anymore and yet colleges act like students still have the option of taking AB and they set their standards for accepting A scores high. If they won't bring AB back then why don't colleges lower their standards for A scores? Or the college board can make the test a little tougher and take away the letter label for the computer science test.

I didn’t know that colleges were becoming more selective about AP Comp Sci credit, but I definitely agree that it would be cool to have AP Computer Science AB back or have A be more comprehensive. I think A is still a good intro though for us high school students, but at the same time there should be a pathway for those who excel to keep going. The head of College Board said they were working on a new AP Computer Science course that doesn’t emphasize programming so it’ll be interesting to see how that fits in.

I still think there needs to be more computer science taught to high schools students though. I’m only speaking from my high school which doesn’t teach any CS but it is such an important subject nowadays.

The discontinuation of Comp Sci AB didn’t affect the difficulty of Comp Sci A - it’s still the same test - so I don’t see why colleges would have the need to change their policy on it.

(At least I think that’s the case, correct me if I’m wrong).
